Thu Apr 24, 08 8:40 pm Misfit or Lunacy |
|
|
I was looking through that SPI blows thread and it appears there are alot of NWkite guys that ride slingshot.
I was wondering if someone can comment on the difference and best uses of the misfit and the lunacy boards.
Is the lunacy a one trick pony? Is it a butter flat water board only?
How are the footstraps? Will they tighten down for smaller feet? I find the LF pads are nice but they don't tigthen enough and my feet push through the front if I land hard.
I currently ride a LF recoil 136 and North RF directional. I am 5'8", 150 lbs What would be the best compliment.
Thanks for any insight.

The Misft is probably a slightly better all around board because it's a bit skatier, however, I personally like the Lunacy better. Maybe it's because I came from a Brunotti Pro-X (which is almost identical in shape), but I've just grown fond of a little more hook up and I don't have any problems with it in big swell/chop. And to tell ya the truth, between the Lunacy and Misfit I actually don't notice a whole lot of difference in their ability to cut through chop (unlike the SX which is entirely different). In lightwind, the Misfit 136 has a tad better lowend, but at that size still works pretty well for wakestyle. Obviously the Lunacy is more "Ruben style" oriented, but the Misfit can do it all aswell and is Mark Doyle's main board.
Sorry I can't give you a better review of both...
P.S. - Forgot to mention, the pad/straps work pretty well for smaller feet (work fine for me being almost identical in height/weight to you with a 9.5 shoe). The toe ramps don't have quite as much grip as the older arch pads, but they're definately more cushy. Phil swapped his out for some NSIs which I'm pretty sure are even more plush. |

thanks for the info. I rode the Naish sol lately and I can't say I liked it much. I found the backend too skatey for me. I was wondering if the tapered tips caused that.
Both the misfit and lunacy boards seem to have a straighter edge than the sol so I assume the skate you are talking about isn't what I was referring to.
Thanks

| Yeah, that's it exactly. I refer to skatey as how much the board likes to slide around. And the wider tips as well as fins and their placement make a huge difference. Sounds like the board you rode may be more along the lines of an SX which has much rounder tips. Does better cutting through chop, but I feel like I have no control on them since I'm used to something planky. |

gotcha.... so you think the lunacy has more bite than the misfit? Are the fins bigger on the lunacy. That probably gives you more load and pop if the fins are bigger.
Thanks

| Just an FYI, but the new LF Comp straps lock down a lot better on smaller feet than the '07 straps. Can't comment on the SS boards, but the Recoil Comp board is pretty sick if you have a chance to try one. Great for wakestyle and boosting air in chop or flat water. I also remember enjoying the '06 Brunotti board when I tried it. |

| Yeah, the Lunacy feels like it hooks up a tad bit harder. Both come with 2" G10 fins, so it's probably got more to do with the overall shape. Ruben rides his with Brunotti fins that are even bigger than the factory Slingshots (for even more bite, I figure). |

cool...thanks.
When does the new 2009 Lunacy come out? Has the design changed much on that? I wonder if it worth waiting? Or get a discounted 2008 board.? |

| Also the lunacy as the fst tech or whatever Slingshot is calling it, the lunacy has a similar flex pattern to the slingshot wakeboards which have excellent pop. |

I saw a 2008 lunacy today, it looked pretty awesome, but didn't seem very discounted... |

harleyboy,
Some of the shops demo boards too so you can try them before you buy. Talk to Pepi at Second Wind I know he was demoing both of those boards last year. |
