is it an electric plane? I'm guessing those bars are from EM interference
.
but cool none the less.... |

Thats crazy badass - you'll work out the kinks - back in the day that was what the Horizontal Hold button dialed in. _________________ Go Deep!

Good stuff!
Pretty sure that's not interference. You'd see it when the prop wasn't turning if it was (so long as your radio is on), but I've seen it on nitro planes aswell which rules out the electric motor. I figure it just has to do with the strobing effect of light passing through the prop and the refresh rate of the cams shutter. The cam tower should fix it.
What size plane is that? And what prop are you running? |

Its a smaller electric plane, the wing span is about 40". That was a 10x7 prop although that brushless motor can swing a 12x8 without drawing too many amps and frying everything. It could be interference though as when the motor is off..there is no current flowing. It's a brushless motor so it moves by generating a large electric field around the motor stator--a big magnet (as apposed to a normal electric motor which charges the stator which is surrounded by magnets).
I am more inclined to think interference as the camera was mounted on top so the prop wash should have shown up as left to right bars, not up and down. How would I protect the camera from elec. interference? _________________ Bury me standing cause I won't lay down!!

Maybe, but before you try to eliminate the EMI, I'd see how it does when not shooting through the prop... because, like I've said, I've seen nitro planes do it (and only when the prop is spinning).
If it is indeed interference, I'm not really sure how you're going to get it completely eliminated. On our built Civics we have to use high power ignition systems that are prone to a ton of EMI if you don't watch your wiring. For this reason, we keep the ignition wiring as far away from the actual computer wiring as possible (you'd have to do the same) and also cross at 90 degrees wherever they do come close. The main thing that helps us though is shielded wiring. So I'd think this would benefit you too, except for the fact that there's no where to ground on your plane!
Haven't broken in my O.S .32SX on my nitro converted Extra 300, so I'm tempted to do it later today while shooting a cam through the prop just to see what happens... |

maybe instead of a tower, you could just point the camera in reverse. Or to the right or left?
that might make for less drag, and the footage would still be ok, might even be cool if left or right for fly-bys... |

And I'm fairly sure there won't be "interference." |
