SUP is another great way to spend quality Water Time.
On the central Oregon Coast where most of the waves are shifty beach break they are a great tool, you can put your self in the right position cause you can move quickly and you can see where you need to be.
Rules of the lineup still apply and as has already been mentioned if it is your first time or you do not have it dialed stay away from other people .
Lastly, before anyone decides that it is a crutch for the drop challenged give it a try in the surf and then make your decision on how much easier it is.

Hein, I already got some rounded and nice bits to stick on the board. Although I think your seems more usable. the ones I got on has a small hole through it...so I can't really screw any thing to the board. I mean with your solution you can really choose how to attach the items..what ever they are.
Any ideas for what to use to glue it on?
Here are some more pics...

they have stick-pads on the other side... you just peel and stick. They work pretty well I have to say! (but I have managed to rip one loose using them on a twin tip).

How do you get thru the white water It seems like standing up and padling over the white water would be really hard?

We have two old school 12 foot Obrien windsurfers which me and my family use on the bay in front of our house.
No waves, just paddling. Not sure how they would perform on the waves?
Really good exercise!
You can pick old windsurfers up for next to nothing these days on Craigslist.
I bought 2 old boards barely used, and 2 sails for $100.
A 'real' stand up board is over a grand.

for smaller waves its not too hard, but I'd be scared to paddle over those monsters!

Like Phil said...smalle waves not a problem.
I'd say it depends on the white water..North Shore white water..not so easy.
Actually I'd say it is worse to get caught by the bomber..the one rogue wave that really knocks your teeth out. The wave that everyone starts yelling OUTSIDE for. If it peaks right in front of you you are in trouble.
I got caught by one that shot up right under me...it actually shot up so hard under my board it catapulted me high off the board.
In any case, generally for white water, paddle towards the wave as hard as you can, walk a little back on the board...not so much that it will shot up and hit your face...once you get more experienced, you will not get caught as much on the inside. Ride the wave almost all the way into the channel..if you hit the perfect wind direction for waves (did anyone say off shore), you hardly have to paddle to get back out...
The past day have been nice. I had a paddle in Kailua Bay on Sunday..insanely nice. Not a breath of wind, not a single wave..yet so so nice...it was glassy, like paddling on a sheet of glass...we could easily see down 50feet...I was checking out the reef formations where the biggest waves comes in. Amazing feeling.
Today I went in Waikiki, the wind have started kicking up...(I think I will go kiting for lunch tomorrow...for the first time in 5 weeks...) got several breaks almost to my self. I don't think people expected this..or they are just waiting for the anticipated swell that is moving in. I have still not had a single bad session SUP'ing.
Anyhoo...stoked again.
Getting ready for wind now...
