It was an awesome event with the fishing boats taking everyone to the island in the morning. On the island was a huge bonfire which was stoked by some found old bails of pot. Viva BAJA! Lunch was burittos and then the race kicked off at 1:15 or so. The start of 80 kites was insane with several tangled kites crashing almost on me. The skill level of competitors was really good as you can see in the results. It was a huge leg burner. The fastest guy made it in 24 minutes. Kite size was 10 for girls and 12 for guys. After the crossing, the sponsors had demos plus food, beer tent and swag. Tomorrow the top 10 girls and top 20 guys advance to the course event plus more demos, beer, and burritos.

Atta girl to Becca!

come on mystrygrl, you weren't at the 2007 blowout? there was tons of kites there! I think about 60-70 at Stevenson. yay, I'm severely buzzed, watching "the office" with roommates, HA. (listening to Zucchero - Baila Morena)

AAAHH, I wanna kite again!!!

Here's the hi-d of the pic with the island in the background. It was an amazing sea of kites. Directionals and surf boards are getting through the waves and chop better than the twin tips. Swell was only a 2-4 feet yesterday. It was much higher earlier in the week.

were those hydro foils used in the event? they look sweet, first ones I have seen that just use straps instead of snowboard boots.
