I will be back east for about 4 days and wanted to know if there were any options this time of year around Maryland and Chesapeke Bay. |

I;m not too familiar with that area...I'm north of there~ but we just had a nice spell of warm air temps + nice SW breezes recently....Ocean temp is in the low 40's...but very do-able with a good drysuit.
Here's the link for the local forum for that area...maybe they could help you out if you post there.

Average air temp hovers right around 50. The water temp is 50 deg. as of today. You should be fine with a 5/3 or drysuit if you want. Here is a link to a few spots around the area.

Personally I have only ridden Virginia Beach. Gerat spot for waves with a long downwinder possible. This time of year a 12/11m would be best if you want to travel light. Otherwise I would take a 14/9 on the off chance of hitting a solid 25+. Sorry I can't be more help, hopefully it all works out. [/url] |

Thanks for the information. If I wanted to travel really light, could I rent gear? |

Read the yahoo group Mid-atlantic kiteboarding forum..most those guys are from the Maryland area. Or you can just make the 2.5hr drive south and head to hatteras. |

Maka is another good one
I cannot think of any places that rent gear~
Maybe you can convince one of the kite shops or reps to have demo days the same time you're there? |

hey trevor,
sorry but, hatteras is about a 7 hour drive from maryland.
hey mauiwater,
kiting in the area is tough. lot's of private land but, there are a few spots.
as for kiteshops, the best ones are actually at the coast, in dewey beach delaware.
try: www.eastofmaui.com and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I have driven serveral times from Frederick, Maryland in 5.5hrs, but if you are by Virgina beach, its about 2.5hrs..that is what I was trying to say
DC area is about 4.5hrs drive.
Just watch out for those cops in Richmond, VA ..they are very crafty in the cars they use. They don't use the typical police cars. |

hey trevor,
no offense meant. i used to live in annapolis and would drive down. i was in an old 86 dodge van that didn't go more than 55 downhill. when i hear chesapeake bay, i am biased and think that annapolis was the only area that counted.
