When the telemetry reads 32º at 5200 ft -- it might as well be--
Hopefully it will be COLD tomorrow; like low 20ºs
(Matt Zaffino called it back on monday that snow levels would rise thursday.)
I just saw the 600 news. He said 10-18" tonight.
We should be gold for tomorrow

The NOAA forecasts have been very optimistic all winter so far. 16-22 means 8-11 inches. Add 5 to 6 degrees to any high or low on the forecast for Meadows. Subtract 2 inches from anything Meadows says, their cackle stick isn't as big as they state. If they say they have a park, it's probably something they built a week ago. If they say there is 10 rails in the park, there is probably 3. The other 7 are mysteriously not there. If they say a jump is 25 feet, it's actually 15. If they say it's 15, it's 8. In fact, don't believe a word anyone says about meadows, it's all bullshit and they're going to say whatever it takes to get the crowds up there on the weekends and dick over anyone who rides during the week. Good Game Corporate Ski Area! FUCKITY FUCK FUCK

So many times I've been up there on what would be epic weekdays, but heather/jacks/yoda never seems to be open.
At 2 they'll change the reader board from "weather permitting" to "closed". Gee thanks.

So is meadows not better this year w/o Rieley?

Is Heather still not open?

Funny when too much too fast works against you.

Got lower Heather when it first opened last weekend. I don't think upper has opened yet.

Private's been real good to me this year. I am a weekend warrior so carving freshies requires sticking to a strict schedule. Got the routine down:

1) Be in the first 10 chairs at HRM at opening
2) Hit the faces (fast) x2
3) Hit the tree runs right off the main runs x3
4) By now private should be open, go! x2
5) Shooting star / Heather if open
5) Right around when its getting real crowded (11am), take an early lunch (no wait), always Pizza + Pitcher of beer
6) HRM / Private a couple more times then head home

That's what's worked for me, of course the top of the mountain hasn't been open any of the times I've been. That might factor some, though I have never had it really great up there, usually so wind blown.

With the season pass we usually just hit it early and leave early. Groomer days its easier to be lazy, groomers don't really get choppy and the crowds don't seem to flock to those conditions.

I love it, new snow 5" after a forecast of 16-22... At least they didn't lie.

My complaint is only about the false advertising that they get away with on the conditions page. We have X number of jumps, rails, and new snow... I've come so close to starting my "freemeadows.com" blog/forum where I'd just get people to start collecting evidence of false advertising so we could force them into at least telling the truth.

so do you feel like the nwac site that is on meadows is bullshit too? It is what I always check, seems to be an honest reflection of the truth. It of course is only a report of a single point on the hill though.

The meadows snow phone is usually BS, I just check the numbers on the site. If its 30 degrees or warmer at Govt Camp with precip then don't go.

My favorite meadows / Dave Riley term was "Snizzle" (snow / drizzle)

Yah, NWAC is pretty good. Just like with kiting you need to take in all the beta and make your own forecast.

Arrow http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pqr/snowdata.php

Govy cam is good as it has temp as well as snow coverage. Click on the Trip Check camera on hwy 26. Arrow http://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap.asp?mainNav=RoadConditions&curRegion=2

Remember to check all three components:

New Snow
Temp

and don't forgot Max Wind Speed

went up on Wed - 8" of 25 degree new snow but pretty packed by 70+ max winds

-----------------------------------------------
Bachelor was no snizzle last weekend

--------------------------------------------------

Some one should hit this: 50 degrees and 14 W

I work up there; that place is so hit and miss……(just wait 10mins, the weather is bound to change) I’m just thankful we have Mt. Hood, it sure beats the Blues of winter.

I’m bound to hit Mt. Dalles on a good day, the place has potential for sure.
