Hey guys I just made it down last night. First of all the campground at border was fine showers, and all but was all but totally vacant save for someone waiting to find a way to get thru Equador, around it actually. So I headed out and it was totally gravy and no troubles or any sign of. Well other than a total tire blow out 40 mile north of catavina. Anyway driving the speed limit other than in major cities is a joke quickest speed is 80km and when they finish construction they leave the old 30km signs up. unless you are doing 20-25km over limit you will cause havoc to everyone else. I only saw one cop on entire trip out of a town and only saw trucks ment to help travelers on last 1/3rd of trip. No signs to get to La Ventana in a huge town made it interesting. Also downshift at microwave station before you start over edge going toward Coast town north of Muligee (spelling) and great camping on beach with many other campers HIGHLY recommended, about 3 spots. Any questions let me know???

I have flown into Cabo and taken the bus to La Paz. It's a bit of a bother because you have to first grab a cab or shuttle into San Jose del Cabo bus station, then catch your bus to La Paz.
When you look at the bus fares there are two options: "Via Larga" that goes up the Sea of Cortez side (and through Los Barriles), or the "Via Corta" route that goes up the Pacific coast side (and through Todos Santos).
"From Los Cabos International Airport to La Paz:
Airport shuttles run the 10 miles regularly from the Los Cabos Airport to San Jose del Cabo. From San José del Cabo there are 2 bus routes north to La Paz. The eastern route is shorter but the time is longer because it is mountainous and the bus makes as many stops as needed for passengers. The western route runs through Todos Santos on the Pacific side. Ten buses a day run from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm."
Or you could price a direct cab or shuttle from the San Jose del Cabo airport to La Paz.
Another option... give these people a call:
Peninsula Executive Class Line Bus
Peninsula Executive Class Line serving La Paz, Los Cabos and San Jose del Cabo only: price: $198 pesos, per person, one way, directly without stops, air conditioned. Departing every two hours - first departure at 7:15 a.m., last departure 8:15p.m. Phone Number in Cabo: From US: 011-52-(624)-143-50-20

You could steal a car? Or perhaps set up a fake military check point and "borrow" a car. In the end, it would be easier to take the bus. Your going to spend half the day on the bus.

By this time, hopefully, you will understand why its worth the extra $100? to just fly into LaPaz and have captain kirks pick you up or hitch a ride with one of the athletic people wheeling "golf" bags milling around the LAZ airport.

super....if you take a bus or shuttle to La Paz and let me know what day and time I could pick you up at bus terminal on the malicon and could do some weekly shopping same time. have mid size truck down here. Gas donations would be accepted graciously of course.

Which internet are you using to fly to Cabo for $280?

I just did a search and the cheapest I found was $400.. with a connection in Phoenix Shocked Shocked portland/setac/cabo is $470.

I don't know why I'm even in this conversation... I can't go anywhere (except Ocean Shores WA.). This I found on kayak.com:

Hey Damien,

Thanks for the update. We are excited to start our journey as well. We hope to leave on the 8th or 9th. Glad to hear that you did not encounter any problems along the way except for the blown tire. If there is no one for us to team up with at the campground, we too will probably do a solo drive down. How is the weather down there? How is the wind? What were the check points like on your drive down? Also the availability for gas? We will be sure to look you up as soon as we arrive. Ben and Vickie

check points south bound were a wave once they see you are tourist just say where you were last night and you are going to LaPaz.(they get confused when you say you are going to the Window". Gas was at every major town but alittle more pricey than Cali. not sure about diesel. The weather was windy in LV my whole drive down but has been flat, due to overcast skies, last 2 days, but looking better soon.
