That's so cool!
I wonder if any inspiration came from Waterworld...
I want one of the kiteyachts from the other company on the page.

"kites fly approximately 1,000 ft above the surface!"
DUDE That is a serious amount of line. Plus the kites have an autopilot feature and navigation software that steers the ship towards optimal wind conditions. Now THAT is a kite I could handle.

I wonder if they sine the kite for relative wind speed.
100m is probably a bit of a pig! |

I wonder if they're using 800lb line...
Just looked it up and 2", 12-strand Spectra is rated at 1/4 million pounds. And it weighs ~90lbs/100ft!!! |

I don't know if that's what they're using... It's just the biggest they had on the site that I always look up Spectra specs. I'd imagine they're using something like that though. |

It looks like one line but then how does the control work? some kind of remote control/servo deal? |

Slalom kitefreightering is gonna get old quickly...nwkite shouldn't endorse until Hein is brought onboard to design a surf freighter with minimal draft which can take on Mavs, Jaws, Nelscott, & beyond.

I think they said it was a 160m kite
At 3 to 5 years to recoup the cost - I think it would be much more cost effective to hire Sasquatch to man 10 or so 20m kites (think you can pick them up on ebay for $150) |

I think you are forgetting to factor in the Heineken cost variable per nautical mile in your calculations. . . probably still cheaper though |
