after surfing yesterday
I"M SORE (it's been a few yrs)
need to get back on the kite relief
and today looks like it will cooperate
but the forecast could chage by this afternoon |

the thing about getting swallowed by a mavericks wave and taken to the beach is that it's much of a beach. the inside has some name like 'the cauldron' or something b/c it's just boiling soup - a total mess. come in from that and it's a boulder field mostly - really gnarly. they had some good shots of it in riding giants if i remember. he was straight-up running for his life on one of those. i'm amazed more people don't die on that wave.
shit, john, i think i might save you the drive to walton and come and get my first of the season surf soreness. i'm the reform rider! it'll be nice to have someone else out there to keep the sharks off me;) |

Notice the surfers that dropped in and were eaten alive at 1:54 and 2:24...  Dudes must have been wearing air tanks or something. They didnt see air for a while.
Also notice that when Kafka is flying, he's got the kite nice and high above the face of the wave. There is a moment early in the video when he dips in a little low and it starts to flutter. You drop it and thats the end of the ball game. A boiling mountain......
