Airnet is calling for E @ 9 at Troutdale for Thursday.

http://www.atmos.washington.edu/data/zone_report.KPQR.html
Is saying:

THURSDAY...PARTLY SUNNY. HIGHS AROUND 60. EAST WIND 10 TO 15 MPH

Generally that means 20+ at Rooster. Any other thoughts on the forecast? Who's up for a session? Maybe another Dawn Patrol?

I definately want to get out. Just got my kites today. Probably not in for dawn patrol though... 11-12:00ish sounds good if there's wind.

I'd be stoked to do another dawn patrol. Is there a way to confirm whether it's gonna go before leaving the house? Are people fairly confident in the forecast being 9mph? I know last time it nuked all night so it was an easy choice, but if there's no wind when we wake up do we just go for it?

Weather should be nicer this time so bring your shades in case the sun pops out Cool

I come out noon-ish or earlier, meet at Dalton point. If the weather is right.

Just check the wind at Corbett and the pressure differential Portland-The Dalles. E .04 and increasing is good, as far as I've been able to tell. Anybody else have any observations they use?

The earliest I can get to Rooster would be 7:30... If that isn't good a noonish downwinder from Dalton sounds good. Very Happy

9mph Troutdale forecast could mean 30s at Rooster. When we hit it on Tuesday I think forecast was around 19 for Troutdale, that's when the wind at Rooster was in the 40's.

Does that mean you're in for another go Phil? How about you Brett? Should be less crazy this time. If it's looking good I'll probably try to be there around 7am. This way we can dress, rig, and be riding shortly after it gets light out and hopefully get to work at a reasonable hour. I'll park at the far (Eastern) end of the park as usual and plan on walking down the stairs right by the bathroom. Hopefully someone else will come in case the VS show up.

Nak, you should still come out at 7:30 if you can. Wind should be steadier early and you'll get plenty of time on the water.

I checked out Dalton's launch yesterday and the rocky and muddy beach there isn't looking very good. Not much space to set up that's free of rocks. It'd work if someone was launching you, but not sure what the last person would do since it's pretty gusty there and self-launching or drift launching would be sketchy. Since staying upwind wasn't a problem last time I'm not sure if it's worth it (at least in the stronger morning winds).

dawn patrol sounds sick, twisted, and lots of fun. Smallest kite I have is a 9m though... any reliable way to tell what is going on out there in the morning?

Have someone post a report once they get there Laughing

Otherwise I think you're stuck just adding a random percentage to the gusts. Might be doable on a 9 tomorrow especially early on or later in the day.

The forecast is way weaker than last time, and last time Stevenson was nuking easterlies all night before. (Right now its still west in the Gorge)

My bet is it will be pretty light, but I'll probably wake up early and take a look. I still feel a bit cheated out of a sesh, and I am going to be out of town this weekend so I'd like to get the Gorge goods before I go.

I'm packing my gear now... If it looks good, I'll be there about 7:30. If not I'll look again 11 or 12.

If you haven't gone to Rooster much, Binoculers can be a useful wind gauge. It can be pretty light by the parking lot, and whitecapping up by sand island. You really need binoculers to tell from the parking lot though.

Sand Island is a long hike though. Downwinders from Dalton are a lot more fun than hiking 45 minutes! Very Happy

The sun rises at 6:21 tomorrow. If I'm to be at work anywhere around 9, I've gotta get my gear ready early! (Like meet you there @ 6:00)

Umm...you sure you got your facts straight? I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be 7:21am. I left the house around 6:20 last time and it was still dark. Things start to be visible around 7 though so you could always get there at 6:30 and be riding by 7 (if it's windy already).

I'll plan on getting there by 7. Worked well last time. We could potentially do a downwinder too if other people are interested. Let's just hope it blows Smile

Would be sick to have a slider out there! I'll help carry if someone brings it to the parking lot.

thanks for setting me straight! I was looking at a "non-daylight savings" chart. The sunrise is 7:21 tomorrow. (I can sleep an extra hour!!)

You guys are nuts to carry a slider out there from the parking lot. lol

This is the Wunderground forecast for Troutdale...
"Thursday
Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs around 60. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Near The Gorge...gusts to 25 mph in the afternoon."

11:55PM update:
It's NOT very windy!

Alright, doesn't look too windy yet, but it's blowing a bit Easterly and should ramp up. I'm gonna check it out. Hope to see others there.
