Are you a new rider? If not which kites do you want to try?

not so new - riding for about 6 months fulltime. I am decent enough to avoid all sorts of accidents, and am good upwind and downwind. Not jumping yet.

I'd like to try a good depower kite that feels safe in gusty conditions.

All of the shops in Hood River are very accomodating, Big Winds, 2nd Wind
and New Wind are the three that come to mind. Put a call in to them a few days before you go out and I don't think you'll have too much trouble.

I do NOT rec. Big Winds. A few years ago, they sold me a "only used twice ' Boxer 1, and told me it was in 'as new' condition . One day while packing up , I noticed many small patches on the canopy - No big deal, but those patches were not put on at the factory Evil or Very Mad .

New Wind & 2cd wind are good, and in the Hood. Gorge Performance is a good PDX shop.

The above hazing is uncool.
"...How many concerts you been-to, and not stage dived?"
"You've never seen Motorhead?!"
"You've never pissed on the floor in the Kingdome between Kingdom Come and Metallica?!"
"You've never left a show bleeding?!"

Point beins, kiteboarding is about individual expression with the bottom line = fun. Holmes enjoys the sport, don't haze him over it.

Now check-out some Gwar:

a bit of banter is no harm - I think most kiteboarders are a tough skinned bunch. Yes, still no jumping - unless you factor in the countless times I've been pulled into the air accidentally...

How did you know I wear a purple bike helmet? They're the coolest things on the water!

Seriously? You got the $100 and one of those Borat banana hammocks handy? Why wasn't this offer made while it was still warm out...I assume riding implies a few tacks before you completely freeze your $%@# off?

How about a Darth Vader helmet while we're at it?

Ya you have to ride now and you need to do a flat 3 kite loop. U must land it clean.

I see this contest is only for a few elite riders, although I don't recall any trick stipulations in the original post.
