Been reading this forum and it is fizzle schmizzle, fodrizzle. I have learned nu skool riding tips too. But, I want to be cool! So far, from reading some threads on this forum I need to:

1. Not wear a helmet
2. Not wear a pfd
3. Not use sunscreen
4. Not learn anywhere near anyone who is cool
5. Stay away from a really grouchy guy who does not want anyone else to learn how to kite
6. Kite in 3cm of water just up-wind of people learning and be sure to call them "Kooks."
7. Flame other forum users who are seen as "not cool."

So, basically I need to act like I am still in Junior High School! Sound about right?

and if they act rude, act REALLY rude in return. i mean, shit, the only explantation is that they must be inconsiderate bastards. . .

okay, i am over it now.

man, really, welcome to the church.

understand that you are free to make this thing whatever you want, make it a religion like it is for me, as just something you do to blow your hair back from time to time.

don't take anything here too seriously. sometimes the guys trying to act all cool are the most emotionally constipated ones in the group.

the only thing to be a bit rigid about is safety. when someone gets hurt, we all suffer, know what i mean?

1. TAke lessons
2. Take more lessons
3. Start body drags
4. Be safe and don't give a crap what people say. PFD, Helmet, and whatever you think you need to be safe.
5. Make friends with a kiter who will help you like me, or most guys at the spit.
6. Ask stupid questions
7. Ask someone on the spit before you launch if it is a good spot for a beg/you to start.
8. KNOW WHAT TO DO IN A CRISIS AND PRACTICE IT ON DRY LAND!!!

9. GO TO A LAUNCH AND THROW YOUR BAR, TEST YOUR SAFETY SYSTEMS!!!

10. CHECK YOUR LINES

11. GET COACHED BY SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS

12. HAVE FUN!

13. BUY GOOD KITES AT LEAST 06 OR BETTER!! THIS SPORT IS ABOUT GOOD GEAR AND BETTER SAFETY.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

cuss like a sailor
drink like a logger
act like an idiot

kiting seems to have no coolness
makes it kinda nice
a good cross-section
some of my pals dress funny when kiting
some of them act funny all the time
it would appear at this time there is no correct
"in Crowd'
but I'm sure there are plenty
thinking about it

you can learn here
but not much

If you can't make friends with kiters on the beach, then it is likely that you can't make friends anywhere.

If people (like myself) poke fun at something (like somebody wearing 18 friggin layers in order to kite on an 85 degree day) or someone's goofy ass helmet, its all in good fun. If you can't laugh at some of this stuff, then you are likely to go crazy. You have my insincere apologies if I'm not PC enough for you, but you see some funny shit out there and a gentle chuckle helps to keep the sanity.

I think the vast vast majority of people on this forum don't care what kind of clothes or safety gear you wear or whatever as long as your not acting like a fool.

But, if your really want to know how to feel like one of the guys, the best way is to create a new account, and for your first post, rail on everyone in broad sweeping accusations.

I don't know about kiteboarding, but with that list you'd make one helluva snowboarder.

the only one with some truth is #5 IMO, but he's great in person and takes board shaping and riding to a new art form so can be excused Wink

yeah it's what pdx-ape said. if you don't have a sense of humor you're never going to get past the trainer kite stage.

if you think this is a mean crowd you should go lurk on a surfer forum.

Me to, cause once I can pull it off I'm heading straight to the pro pool and busting that shit out. Then I'm going to land my kite and just wait for the cool kids to flock to me with praise. I will finally feel accepted and loved.

word

i think a big reason why i've enjoyed learning how to kiteboard so much is that the people are way cooler than most sports.

plus its fun to give people crap when they don't quite land that handle up the ass trick. even after i botch an extra lame gailey and invert my kite beyond human comprehension. its all in good fun.
