Hey guys,

I am trying to setup a kiteboarding rental shop in portland so that people who want to learn to kite but do not have the money to take lessons can rent their own gear cheaply for a few days. I need a bunch gear to get this going so I was wondering if you could let me know if you have any old kites or boards for sale (kites under $200, boards under $90). I cannot yet afford to get newer kites, plus beginners are likely to trash the gear anyways. I was thinking of including maybe an instructional DVD with the rental. I think this would be a great way to get people into the sport!

You should definitely _NOT_ include an instructional DVD. Wouldn't want it to get scratched!

it is kind of crazy, but I'm assuming that you are going to instruct them on the rental gear?

check the for sale section, there are loads of good deals in there.

I think the main reason there is no rental gear available is that you need to have insurance so if somebody gets hurt using your gear they can't sue your butt for everything.

From what I understand the only insurance available is for schools, but I am really not sure. Also consider how easy it would be for someone to destroy your gear... How could you cover for that?

This must be a joke. Older gear is not nearly as safe as the new stuff, and just ahnding it to someone without giving them a lesson is just asking to get someone hurt/killed and a good way to get sued. Definite Darwin award winner.

WTF is this post?

Maybe along the same lines of: I should open a parachute rental company, allow people to jump from planes on old discount used gear without lessons. Sounds AWESOME!

So why do you want to allow people that can't afford lessons to rent gear? Old or new gear it is not safe, for them, us, or anyone around them.
If you can't afford lessons, you can't afford kiteboarding.

I think this is a great idea Wink I have some old 2001 gear that I have been trying to off load on someone!! Money, money, money . . . MONEY!!!

OK - this has got to be a joke - a joke to get under people's skin because this would really pave the way to a lot of injuries for everyone on the sand bar.

You forgot: open up a new injury law office, followed shortly after with the Bankruptcy Law Office
