Well the time has come for you all to have your opportunity to demo the new Slingshot REV kites.
Amery, myself and Matt will be at the Sandbar starting around noon or so with a quiver of REV kites for experienced and at least moderately skilled riders to try out.

We should have a decent quiver range, at last one of each size.

It's time to try before you buy (bring your credit card, because you'll probably be needing it after you finish your demo ride).

2nd Wind Sports has a limited REV kite shipment arriving sometime within the next week (keeping our fingers crossed).
For more info contact Pepi or Matt at 2nd Wind Sports
(541)386-4464 / 2ndwind@gorge.net

See you all on Thursday at the Sandbar!

**If we get shafted by the windgods Thursday, we'll have the kites available over the weekend during the KB4C event on Saturday**

A Slingshot board demo would be cool.
I really want to check out the difference between the SX and Misfit.
Does anybody know what size range they will produce?

See ya Thursday.

I have been unable to get it to invert. but kodiak and pkh got it to invert once, but the bridals are so short that it "self corrected" inflight without tangles.
not sure what pressure kodiak and pkh had their kites at.

I pump them up rock hard about 8 psi..but have not heard what the offical SS presure should be.

I was there when PKH inverted and the way it fell..even a C kite would have inverted. he overshot the kite, hindenburg, then lines got retentioned mid-fall, inverted, then the kite spun a 180 and snapped back out and he turned away and rode away.

I 'll see if Amery can bring down his SX and Lunacy demo boards down on Thursday for demo use.
Let me check and then I'll get back to you guys on this.

Thanks
Pepi

We haven't got an invert yet (even the way Phil got it to - though I don't know that should be considered an actual "invert"). Definately wanna make sure they're solid though. And 7lbs is all it should take (make sure you've got a good gauge).

P.S. - Henry, I assume you're just photoshoppin' in that vignette, right? Nice pics!

As I see it there are two types of inversion on any kite... One is where the kite is on the water, does a backflip and then relaunches or doesn't, but either way the bridles wrap the kite and you risk the kite getting torn to shreds by the bridle or 5th line. Sometimes it fixes itself, sometimes you need to crash the kite and pull a side line, sometimes you need to swim.

The other where the kite is flying fast through the middle of the wind window, and because of very strong gusty wind and/or a fully sheeted out kite out of its range, the bridles take over and the kite flattens out or pops open/close. I have not seen a kite be destroyed as a result of this, but it doesn't look very pleasant and it can't be good to the longevity of your kite.

I've seen all brands and types of kites do the first type of inversion (even C kites.) The second I have seen and experienced on pretty much every flavor of SLE, where I have not seen it in person I have heard of it happening. I'd say most SLE's are getting much better at preventing it from happen.

So yeah full disclosure I have gotten the Rev to do the 2nd type of inversion, or flattening. I didn't have more than 6lbs of pressure in the kite according to the pump I was using, but the LE felt like it was pretty damn hard. Maybe I should put some more in next time. The Rev has a thicker LE than a lot of SLEs, so it seems like structurally it would stay together pretty good.

A lot of this is a balance of stability and performance. You can make kites that are rock solid stable and would never invert, but you could be sacraficing speed and the fun feel of the kite (Tanks vs. Ferraris.) I think the 2006 Waroos were awesome and exremely fun kites, but they were also very un-stable kites and very prone to mid-air inversions. Most Bow style (2:1 pulleys on the bar, scalloped trailing edge) kites fly very stable and depower well, but don't feel that fun to me.

If you are a mellow rider, pump your kite up hard, mind your sheeting, and don't fly too big a kite in overpowering winds, my guess is you will never see either flavor of inversion on a modern SLE.

yeah, they all seem to do it, given the exactly right (or wrong) cascade of events.

a little off-topic, i have an 11m sonic, probably the most stable bow-type kite i have ever flown, and certainly the fastest, imho. i bought another 11 from 2nd winds last week, $300 bucks, almost a brand new kite, complete.

the only thing that makes any sense to me is that the seller hated the kite and unloaded it. and no wonder, the kite was way out of tune, the back lines too tight, and these things HATE back line tension. i thought i had it adjusted, but at stevenson, you dont get much beach space to get 'em dialed before launch. it flew up and stalled on the backlines and fell into the window, where it threatened inversion. i sheeted way out, it snapped open (ow!) and righted itself. any more back line pressure and who knows, i might have had two pieces. . .

great kites though.

Yeah, I have had the second type of inversion once on the Rev. I was jumping the 11m at the sandbar. the wind was really flukey and a lull hit causing the kite to begin falling out of the sky.

The wind picked back up and the kite fully tensioned almost dead downwind, just above the water. If I was thinking, this probably would have beena good time to test the safety :0 So the kite basically hot-launcehd dead downwind with a ton of power. I had the bar pushed out almost all the way and it inverted, then righted itself.

As Phil said, you can get pretty much any SLE to invert under the correct circumstances.

Hey Amery

Is there anything new, designwise, on the 08 Glide as compared to the 07?
