We're headed off to Kauai the September 8th for a week of work and play. Does anybody know anything about kiting on Kauai? Locations, average wind speed, etc? We'll be staying at a timeshare in Princeville but we will have a rental car.

We'll be heading to Maui the following week (15th through the 22nd or so) so watch out Bam Bam! No idea where we're staying on Maui yet but we'll figure it out.

Thanks for any info.

Tony

North Shore is Beautiful! They kite about 8 miles east of Princeville
at Annini Beach Park. A few miles west of Princeville is tunnels. (Bethany Hamilton got bit there) You'll definately want to try to get out there.

Although -- Anahola seemed to be the windiest when I was there--but I didn't see any kites there. Anahola is on the East side of the island above Kapaa.

Southside--Right next to the Hyatt is shipwreck beach, best summer surfing.

PS. Traffic can really really suck. Its a shame.

annini park is where there is a kite school, so yah, good place for wind.

i also ran into a bunch of kiters in the bay next to princeville (hanalei bay).
The wind was pretty light. We were there in november. I went out and drug a 20m C in from the break (not mine, was rescuing a local).

my observations of the east side looked like it was a local surfing spot. I was going to go check it out, but I've heard some stories about hawaii surf locals... that said, I was surfing on the south side (off to the side of the main break), and a local paddled over and invited me into the line up..... so maybe it's all here-say.

Ton,
be careful, Tunnels can be quite unforgiving, and the reef will shred you if given the opportunity ...that said, yeah Tunnels, Anini, Kapa'a there are some other spots, but there is some localism there, so approach with caution, and ask guys already there.....

The safest by far is Anini, only launch way up wind of swimmers and stay way out...the place doesn't work when the wind is too east...but works in more North winds. (trades are north-east and variations of it).

Tunnels has a very special approach to get out, ou need to get up winds, fast, and then out...You'll see..but don't go out unless someone else is there.

Kapa'a doesn;t work with too many kiters, it is fairly small and you can't end up downwind...acess the launch gogin from Kapa'a town towards the airport...from right outside the town, When the gas station is on your right and take a left..follow the street down to the beach...you'll see it....

oh, and don't tell anybody I wrote this....they really don't want kiting tourism there...
