What your favorite footstrap setup for a directional? I've got the 2020 SS Celero with missing straps.

On a surfboard I think you want loose fittings.
Easy to slide in when you want them. You can always push up with your toes if you want upward pressure (like in chop).
Also, I wouldn't want anything flimsy or rubbery. When I want to use my footstraps I want them to be firm, controlled and repeatable.

I had a 2020 celero. Nice board but way too fragile. I really liked the stock slingshot straps. Sold the board bought a another 2019

Not sure if it breaks policy to name brands but I use NSI skinny adjustable & they’re great.

Thanks, Done. NSI
And yes I know it's fragile. Heel dents are why I got this thing super cheap used.

I'm surprised the Celero is gaining a reputation as fragile. That has not been my experience. I used to go through 3 boards a years (big guy jumping surfboards). Now I go through one every 2 or so seasons. I equate this to the fact my landings are getting better, but also because the celero construction has gotten much better. Carbon stringers, carbon rails, hefty deckpad, multi glass layers with a bamboo layer. If anything the newer boards are considerably stiffer and harder on the knees, but I consider them to be quite durable.

Are you sure you're on the 2020? Purchased mine from a strapless rider in Seattle who's been a big fan of the previous Celeritas construction, but this year has bad heal dents. I have two other friends with similar results. I'm on a surfboard about %5 of my life (foiler) so it's no big deal.

My latest is a 2019 (purchased in 2020). Thanks for the insight.

If I'm going to use straps, I'm a fan of the minimalist Dakine Slim Footstaps. The old ones I liked even better, they were even more minimalist, but less durable. These are "screwdriver" adjustable only. I believe they are similar to the NSI kite race straps the Ho-Toe likes, which I need to try. See: https://www.windance.com/DaKine-Slim-Footstrap/13232/ . Once set, they don't stretch. With this type of strap I just wear the same thickness of bootie everywhere to avoid adjusting.

I found the 2020 to be so much more forgiving in the chop than the 2019, wasn't as hard on the knees etc. It felt kind of like an actual surf board v a kite surf board. I did end up getting decent sized heel dents pretty early on with mine, but it lasted almost a full year with those heel dents when I finally cracked mine. It was easily repairable and was good to go.
I moved to a blunt nose board this year and so far so good, feels supple in the chop and I do already have heel dents, but based on the 2020, not concerned at all about them at all.

The Slingshot straps aren't bad, but the NSI straps are the bomb!

Late to the party to say the stock Slingy straps have been fine for me. I have big feet and some others I've tried are more restrictive, but I'll have to try the NSI on for size sometime.
I jumped the crap out of a 2019 Mixer after spending a season comparing it to the 2019 Celero, and it's held up OK wrt heel dents (I weigh 185). Did have to repair a small crack in the nose but I think it bounced up against the Rufus rocks at one point late fall.

I never rode foot straps in the gorge, Oregon coast, HI, etc ever but I started to after I moved to NZ because of this unique strap design. The problem with traditional foot straps for kiting is that they don't actually let you SURF...look at tow boards- the front foot is angled not parallel with the rail.
I had seen this foot strap design by the legendary Biggie Smithers (Taranaki shaper) a few years ago when I ran into him kiting on the beach. It's this best solution for kiting if you are gonna use straps. Not sure why the rest of the kite industry hasn't figured this out. I thing Biggie makes is own straps...some thick webbing wrapped in foam and covered in neoprene (pretty simple).
This is a custom 5'8 I had Biggie shape for me with a Sci Fi kind of tail. My dream board and the best kite SURF board I've ever ridden.

Anyone ever find an easy on and off foot strap system? like to ride my dwarf craft/foil strapless, but occasionally like to put straps on to do some jumping.
