I give out bad advice.

PostTue Jun 05, 07 2:00 pm    Are you an inconsiderate kiteboarder? Reply with quote

Kiteboarders are looking up and windsurfers are looking down!

Windsurfers are scared of the downwind side of kites! They have their back to you and feel caught between the kite and the boarder.

As Kiteboarders we should be concerned with what scares windsurfers. This is being considerate. I think that the problem with how Kiteboarders are percieved is based on a few inconsiderate kiters. Windsurfers feel a little bit entitled as Kites are new.

It is harder for a windsurfer to do a really fast turn. Kiteboarders can turn on a dime! So, it would be a good idea to yield to windsurfers rather than scare the shit out of them by hanging the kite on their head!

What do you all think??? Very Happy

Kiting is not new. This reason has expired.

I'm incredibly considerate to every THING else on the water.

We have to ride with our backs to windsurfers as well.

Windsurfers can be just as inconsiderate.

It seems to me that the grass is always greener on the other side.
This is very evident at Stevenson when you have 20 or more kiters at kite point and one or two windsurfers just up wind at Bob's Beach. Next thing you know the windsurfers are sailing in the same area as the kiters. I dont get it? I just smile and wave to them as I pass by, thinking to myself, thank god I dont do that anymore.

I do recall last year when a windsurfer saved a kiter from the "Smilie Faced Barge". The kite was down in the shipping channel and not relaunching after the kiter drifted into Bob's beach territory just as a Barge was drawing closer, a windsurfer dragged the kiter out of the shipping lane and all the way to the shore.

Some people share the stoke and some people dont. Know matter what I am doing I always treat other people as I would like to be treated. Very Happy

If your thirsty and just got off the water, I would give you my last beer....if you asked for one anyway. Wink

We think you're ignorant and have an axe to grind, we already told you this. Now i think you're just stirring up BS just to stir up BS!

Are you a glutton for punshinment on the kite forum as well? This is just blatant ignorance on your part. If a windsurfer is so close to the downwind side of me that he is underneath my lines between me and my kite, then he is TOO CLOSE Exclamation I would consider this buzzing me, and very very rude etiquette on the windsurfers part. Totally unacceptable. The only time i've had a windsurfer underneath my lines between me and my kite was because he was buzzing me for kiting in front of the event site (this was last year mind you).

If windsurfers are afraid of being underneath my lines between me and my kite then they shouldn't ride that close to me. Problem solved. Furthermore, i dont have eyes in the back of my head, so anyone approaching from behind needs to be on the look out for anything that could cause him trouble. IF I am upwind AND in front of the guy, then shouldn't I have to right of way, regardless of what either of us is doing? i agree, i dont have the right of way to turn around right in front of him and cut him off, this would be considered turning without looking and not good etiquette on my part, but if we're both justing tacking forward and i'm upwind and in front, then i'm pretty sure i have the right of way as long as i dont cut him off which is why kite boarders look behind them before turning around. A windsurfer is small peanuts in this situation compared to another kiter that you could bowtie your lines with.

A WS would have to be a total kook to get down front and center around the spit where he is going to put himself underneath kitelines, especially when there are 50+ kites out; he should know that is not where he is supposed to be and stay away. Even kiters know that when there are 50+ kiters out around hte spit then you better know what you're doing and how to avoid crossing lines or dont go out. period.

Furthurmore, if a windsurfer is that far downwind, in the spit, the kiters around him are going to know that he is learning, and 99% of us will stay away from him for our own safety.

as kiteboarders we should be concerned with the safety of all water recreationalists, not what scares windsurfers. Caring about safety is being considerate, caring about what scares windsurfers is being a windsurfer who is maybe trying to learn to kite. Windsurfers shouldn't think they are entitled to anything when they are down in the kiting designated area. The majority of windsurfers who are good and can stay upwind, stay away from the sandbar, this is common sense and common practice.

oh yea, and if a windsurfer can't do a really fast turn and isn't ok with that, maybe he should learn another sport. lastly, kiters are taught to always yield the upwind tack to windsurfers, it is common courtesy because it is sssooooo much easier for us to tack back upwind that it makes no difference to us. Kiters dont go routinely buzzing windsurfers or hanging the kite on their head! as you state it; you're just spreading more FUD.

it's too bad more people from the windsurfing community dont read this forum and chime in so they can comment on how blatantly ignorant your posts are.

kiters aren't inconsiderate, what you're doing on this forum is. You should be banned from nwkite.com if you ask me, for ignorant garbage such as this.

PS that avatar is even lamer than the previous one Laughing

PPS hte more i think about it, i should just stop responding to your posts, nobody cares what you think.

Am I on the nwkite.com website or on WWE's SmackDown website?

avatar is still gay.

Before we get into any discussion we need to decide as a group if your new avatar is gayer than the last one or is it just a different type of gay.

So....

1. new avatar gayer than the last
2. old avatar better, but not necessarily less gay
3. old and new, equally gay
4. none of the above

If I'm really thirsty can I get two beers??? Very Happy Way to share the love twin-fin. This is the same snowboarder/skier debate that's been going on for over a decade. I've met really cool kiters, windsurfers, snowboarders, and skiers and have friends that do all of these sports. I've also met inconsiderate assholes doing all these sports. When you come to think of it we all love the outdoors and that's why we're out there every week tearing it up. It's funny how some little detail like what kind of plank you ride or what you use to propel yourself on the water can turn so many people against each other. Can't we just all share the stoke and point our anger and frustration at someone that really deserves it like people who shoot dogs? Evil or Very Mad

Dumb question - but what is FUD?

bulae99,
I'm curious, how many days on the water would you say you logged last year windsurfing and how many kiteboarding? Your posts sound like your still a windsurfer.
Thanks,
Henry

Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt...or Female Urinary Device. Not sure which one this is referring to, but Google rocks! Urban Dictionary had some additional information that you might find useful.

"FUD: Scottish slang term meaning pussy, vagina, muff, cunt

"Your a fud"
"I rolled over in bed and accidently kneed her in the fud. She woke with a scream and punched me in the balls"
"

Bulae's
old avatar was definitely less gay than his new one, at least that one had the fear of death

His argument is totally illogical since kiters are more manueverable and go better upwind/ downwind except for formula boards upwind

Also, kiters are more aware of their environment and can avoid easier any confontrations

P.S. except for the old bald guy that keeps buzzing us on his windsurfing rig

P.S.S. shoot, I've been windsurfing 26 years and I don't grind my wiener like that

Is this thread useful or should we lock it? I'm not a big fan of the bulae99 inflamatory thread subjects ("Somebody died at the spit today", "Is kiteboarding too dangerous?" and now "Are you an inconsiderate kiteboarder?")
