Hood River Waterplay ! I'll teach you how to ride, which BTW does NOT include the history of kiteboarding North kites, Liquid Force boards, wave runner support, good lesson plan = fun on the water! |

I could only afford a 2 hr lesson and had practiced with trainer tons and sle a little. New wind tailored my lesson and was good. Gorge kite also has shack at spit and those 2 guys seem really cool too. |

I took lessons with george kiteboarding school in hood river with mark (aka red-beard) I'd never used a trainer kite myself and knew nothing of kiteboarding, but was body draggin the first day. He is a good teacher with good equipment for you to use (some brand new cabrina bow kites) He has many years of experience and emphasizes safety and procedures for getting yourself back in case of an emergency. http://www.gorgekite.com |

Mark is the guy you need to hookup with. He is one of the most experienced teachers I have run across. He will have you dialed in and riding safely and efficiently. |

I don't know anything about strongkiteboarding, they're probably great, but I would caution anyone not to sign up for lessons looking for instant gratification.
Kiting is a discipline and requires a foundation of kite flying skills and knowledge. If you are dedicated to learning the sport and staying in one piece, I would accept the fact that you should spend 8-10 hours (after your initial lesson) learning to fly powered kites on land with plenty of space and no downwind obstacles.
This is more true around the NW than somewhere like South Padre that has miles of warm, shallow, flat water.

couldn't agree more with slither. Kite instructors that emphasize safety, time and dedication will make you a much better kiter in the long run. It's all about kite control, riding the board is a piece of cake compared to kite control. |

I have been teaching for many years and 90% of the students that have never touched a board and really want to kiteboard learn everything they need to know to learn safely in two days. They will not be going up wind in two days but after three hours of quality wind and a pro instructor. All student will be self sufficiant and able to get on the board in two days forshure.
it is all about the teaching method. |
