I'm going to take out a newbie for beginner training in San Diego. Can anyone recommend good beaches around that area for land flying and body dragging? Will have a car.
Also, does anyone know if there a San Diego specific kite forum bulletin board - a la nwkite.com?
Thanks!

The best place to take beginners is Stinky's in Mission Bay. Manta Kiteboarding teaches lessons here and there is a huge area as well for trainer kites.
Beginners are now allowed at Tourmaline. This is intermediate + only spot, due to the sensitivity of the location.
You can also try Silver Shoals in Coronado but it has waves, can be onshore, i.e. more challenging for beginners. J Street in Coronado is a flat water spot but you need a jet ski for chase. Might be worth it to get in a lesson with the guys at Cali Kites.
There is no forum for San Diego kiters. They have an association that posts rules and info but that's about it.
The Kiteboarder has run a few backwoods stories on San Diego riding spots including Stinkies and Tourmaline. Check out the online archived issues. _________________ Marina
