When you fly with your kite gear do you have to hide the fact that it is kite gear and pretend its golf equipment? Do airlines have restrictions on traveling with kite gear?

I flew Delta, they charged me 25 bucks each way, which really wasn't to bad considering. My bag and kite gear weighed in at 70 lbs. The problem with the Dikine airwagon is that the weight of the bag alone is about 25 lbs (the wheels and bulky plastic supprts add way to much poundage), the airlines really do not give a rats ass of what your bringing as long as the total weight is not over 50 lbs.

I've traveled all over the world with my NSI kitebag that is not even a deceiver. I was only charged one time in Vietnam because they wouldn't turn their back on the fact that it was overweight. Don't fill it up with everything you can put in it because the airline checker will notice it is real heavy, and it might bring up red flags. When they ask what it is, I either say "sports equipment", "golf clubs". or "kites". Be sure to not say anything with "board" in it or you will get charged. I've heard of guys putting one golf club in the bag to be able to produce one for quick proof. Read the thread from dcrowe about using skycaps, sounds like he is getting the royal pocus from Delta.

Key is try to keep the bags under 50 lbs. I have the Dakine BTS bag and the Kicker Bag. The BTS is nice because you can unzip it into two bags dividing the weight. They are more worried about weight than actual size. I've never had a problem with the actual contents.... FYI I usually fly United Airlines.

I actually use a travel soft case golf bag from a golf store..I think it was $80-$90, and I always throw in a putter and a driver.
They always ask me, what is in the bag?
I say "golf clubs"
sometimes they ask, "anything else?"
I say, "Wet suits"
They say, "OK. thanks. have a nice flight"

I've used the big best kite bag three times in the last five months, so far so good. Like people above said, make sure you keep weight under 50 pounds. $20 to the skycap curbside is money well spent.... Coming back from Maui a few weeks ago, big bag was full of wet gear, grossly overweight, we had to bring a bunch of stuff back from our condo.. Gave the guy $25 and he was cool, he winked at me when he picked the bag up... it was heavy.

I took one driver and put it on top of the kites...feel bad flat out lying to the person at the desk when they ask me whats in the bag Wink

Always been a big fan of the NSI Deceiver bag, but recently got a Naish Golf Bag from Gorge Performance. Its really quite a bit nicer than the NSI bag, and around the same price. Lots of cool pockets and features. Thumb's Up

Is it bigger? or Lighter? the NSI doesn't hold as much as I figured, and the weight limit is key.

Aside: Also check the size of the aiplane your flight is on. A Boeing 767 will have little worry about the size of a bag, but the little puddle jumpers (turbo props) are the ones I had an issue with, especially at small, low traffic, airports. Dayona Beach airport was worst, would of been less hassle to go up to Orlando on that trip.

The Naish bag is not quite as long as the nsi bag. It looks alot more like a golf bag then the NSI bag. It has alot of golf symbols on it and is really nice design. The weight is more of the problem for me than the size of the bag usually. It says the bag will hold two boards and 4 kites but I would say more liek 1 board and 2 or 3 kites to keep the weight down.

This is the bag I have:

But I bought it from Steve at GP. It was cheaper than the NSI bag by like $10 I think.

I also picked up a Naish bag last year. No problems on NW air. I did weight in at 47lbs! 2 kites and 2 boards, no problems....

Golf golf bags cost half the price of a kite golf bag.
