So with all the noise about the future of access at the event site and the sand bar right now, it's easy to forget that, unlike many other spots around the globe, we have an entire river gorge to play in, from Rooster Rock all the way out east past Arlington.

That's a lot of windy real estate, and only a tiny fraction of it is posted "Windsurfers Only"

So keep it real, show some love, and watch "check yourself" here http://www.myspace.com/lostboardproductions as a friendly public service announcement that yes, there are many more spots than just the one off the freeway in Hood River. Thumb's Up

And even if you don't care about access at Hood River watch anyways...Tucker takes a wicked hit at the end

So I guess the message is: with so much windy and easily accessible river to kite on, it doesn't matter if we get kicked out of HR. Might as well enjoy it while we can and then move on!

It's funny that you said this today. If it's sunny, last night I made plans to travel east on a scouting trip with a friend. I'll have my gear if the wind is right, otherwise it'll be scouting and photos.

Was thinking we should just let the windsurfers alone, and be thankful for all the sand. All that grass makes you soft anyway. Though a mass kite launch from the Hatch could be really fun to shake things up.

riding the hatchery was incredible, really steady wind nice flatwater and eventualy some swell. exept for one windsurfer and one kiter who packed up when we showed up we had the place to oursleves.
those lines are somewhere around 20 meters but im not sure their exact measurement. the added bonus to the shorter lines was launching was cake.

Yeah, I was kind of dreading the sketched out drift launch from the rocks but with short lines tucker was able to keep it dry until his kite was up. And even if it was a nastier launch the wind and the swell was worth it...if your into that kind of thing.

Good call Ed...scouting trips are the shit. Usually I'll use days when I get skunked to do some exploring. Half the fun for me is figuring out how to make a new launch work, regardless of whether or not I'm the first. And with the gorge, it's amazing how dropping in just a few miles up or down river from a normal launch can give you completely different conditions and brand new downwind potential.

Speaking of, downwinders are another killer method for scouting spots. If you sport big cohones, enough daylight and a solid westerly push Stevenson to the sandbar is the tits.
