Happy Canada Day and Happy Independence Day folks.
It's that time of summer when unbridled vacation based chaos and pandemonium ensues.
What we are seeing and what we need help with:
Please no kiteboarding inside of the white buoys (and show off tricks along Sandbar) : Yes, yes..... you think you look cool doing it, but...... in reality, you look like a selfish show off encroaching on the shoreline users and cutting off the people trying to launch and land at the Sandbar. Be a kiter that others want to emulate and share a beer with, share the water. Tricks are for kids and for upwind riding away from others trying to launch/land.
*Side note - it is an illegal offense now to kite inside the buoys and into the channel, of which will result in a ticket and permanent removal by repeat offenders.
SPEAK UP AND SAY SOMETHING (POLITELY) TO OFFENDERS YOU SEE :
- Say something that others are probably already thinking, but in a polite manner. It can't hurt. It can help others and yourself. We need everyone to participate in keeping the peace down on the water and on the beach.
*Side note - if you see Pepi at the Event Site, yes, you can mention to him about violators, but honestly when he is at the beach, he is an avid kiteboarder himself and is usually trying to take a break from work/family to sneak in a personal kite session.
John and Sharon Chow (the Event Site Hosts) do an awesome job of keeping things organized and safe at the Event Site :
- You will always treat them with respect, especially if you are the one they are talking to. They are good people and we (the CGKA) feel that their presence at the Event Site is invaluable and we love them for doing what they do.
ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR OTHERS IN DISTRESS ON THE WATER:
Check in on people that appear to be struggling or swimming. If they need immediate help and you cannot assist them, then kick ass to find someone who can help them.
Or, if someone is just swimming their way thru a self rescue, sacrifice some of your time to stick near them, encourage them along and make sure they are gonna make it safely.
We live, ride and thrive in an awesome location, here in the Gorge.
Let's make sure to keep the community a community, support others and they will support you.
Thank you
Your CGKA Board of Directors
