Regi, blowhard, PJC and I are Florence riders. I'll leave it to blowhard to tell you how good that site is. Wink

John will say it sucks and stay away (unless you drive a white F-350)

Laughing Laughing Laughing good one Shay! I think you can get by with an F-250 though, but it's definitely got to be white. It's about an hour and a half from Newport to Florence depending on traffic.

What data sources/forecasts are you using to tell that it will be good from Newport down? I'm looking at NOAA and they're forecasting pretty much the same NW 10-15 all the way down the coast.

I am cross referencing the thermal derivative with the expected frontal tolerance.

Kidding. Just general knowledge that he south coast tends to get stronger northerns then the north coast. Some days it rips so hard people drive north to get lighter wind, but when it's marginal you might get a nice sesh south and not enough north.

Overall, the troll factor tips the balance in favor of north coast. Thumb's Up

After many years of looking all around and analyzin the area which I ride I use noaa.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/pqr/

For those who don't know after you chose a zone forecast then you can move the little red dot on the map to the right and get specific for which elevation and aspect( for the mtns.) and it will get specific with the forecast. Sunday looks good N 20 but after further calculations I don't really think its going to happen, to short of interval to generate that strong of thermal.

And with all the peeps going to mountana I believe the right move is to go back to skyline for a few days Laughing

Who's down for some survival kiting at the coast this weekend? All I have is a skimboard, but it could be fun in the shallow break water. I'm not talking about going out into the waves, just hitting the skim water. Hopefully the 14-18 foot swell won't kill me.

Anyone ever kitted in these conditions at Sunset Beach?

Forrest:

If it looks south on Sat. I might be in. I will checkthe forecast, where did you get that info...Noaa.com?

If it is South on Sat. Tolovana in Cannon Beach is pretty nice on a south wind, actually really nice.. fun shore breaks close in. Just wonder if it will be raininy out there on sat. If it is, it will be more difficult to persuade girlfriend.

Start here and zoom in to the section that includes the mouth of the Columbia River. This block represents "COASTAL WATERS FROM CAPE SHOALWATER WA TO CASCADE HEAD OR OUT 20 NM".

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/west/westmz.htm

That's be awesome. Wanna carpool? Although, I have to be back in Portland by 4:30 PM on Saturday, but we could head out early. For Sunday, I've never kited in straight westerly wind, it could be interesting.
