We had a customer come in the other day who was talking about trying to kite over at Potholes reservoir.

You could also check in with the NWkitetalk forum in yahoo groups.

if you do find some spots around courdalene/spokane to ride, let me know. I go up there every once in a while. I've been on Lake CDA a few times where the wind was plenty, just wasn't sure where to set up.

I live in spokane and just started kiting last year. I just drove down to the gorge most of last summer. I did have one good session up at the beach in sandpoint but that's the extent of my riding around here. Sprague lake looks like the most consistent wind around here, if you can bare getting in that green soupy water. Still haven't got the guts yet, so i just keep driving past it for 3 more hours to the gorge.
Also farragut (I talked to a guy who says he goes there often from sandpoint)state park can be good. There's even a decent launch if its not overrun by boaters.

talk to local sailboaters, any lake good for sailboating is most likely good for kiting.

There used to be a crew of windsurfers from the Spokane area that would road trip to the eastern gorge.

They would know all the local spots and launching potential.

Go to ussnowkite and contact alex he might give you some beta on his new area somewhere 1.5 hours east( i think) from leavenworth, Wa. I would think any where around couleee dam would have some riding assuming theres snow. Last I was there we were scouting ice routes and I remember it being open.

Thanks a ton for the reply, that looks pretry killer. Will definitly have to hit that up in the spring. In the pic that you posted, on that sand bar, does it have snow and wind in the winter? maybe a little snowkiting on the beach as funny as that is to say, I know that part of WA gets a good potion of snow usually. later

What up northidaho-

I never went up there in the winter, too lazy! But this area should provide great launching this spring/summer. I dont know how fast the water level comes up but there should be plenty of beach for awhile. Maybe I'll see you there!

What suks about spokane is that you'll spend 2hrs or so driving to Lake Roosevelt spots, and for another hr. you can be at Roosevelt (S. of tricities not the place in the photos) or Rufus and almost be guarenteed(sp) wind.

Lewis and Clark said something about a 'NW passage' but I've looked everywhere and I think they were full of shit.

Bradbury beach is up near Kettle Falls. How is someplace like Roosevelt or Rufus for a beginner who cant go upwind yet? I'm a little intimidated by what I've seen of the shoreline around there. Embarassed

Roosevelt (so I have heard, and it looks to be true, and have never had to do it) if you stay near the shore that you launch from, supposedly you can drift down (east) the beach and just walk back if you get stuck. Rufus would present a problem though. Although I made a decent walk (and swim) back last summer when my leash broke, and my kite flew back to the dam.

And now I know the beach in the picture. Thanks for the info, but there isn't any wind sensors around there is there?

Nearest wind info I've been able to find was two personal weather stations in Colville Wa (look on Wunderground). Not sure how relavant the reading will be for whats going in on the lake but its the closest sensors there are.

In reference to Sol-flyers suggestion to look for local sailing info here is a link for Coeur d'alene lake info http://www.sail-s.com/

I saw a guy last spring who was just coming in to the main beach in cda. He was riding a 7m yarga and said he'd been out most of the winter by himself. He had a drysuit and the whole lake to himself!

Nice Cool
