Wed Jan 24, 07 2:07 pm 06 or 07 Waroo? |
|
|
Hey all,
I need help making a buying decision.
a) 06 waroo with 06 bar. Or
b) 07 waroo and use a 05 slingshot bar I already have.
Both options are equal in price. I could just suck it up and get the 07 bar but if I can save the extra 300 bones....
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Hobbsla

I'd go for the 07 Waroo, its got a lot nicer construction and more range than 06.
For bar the 07 bar is also a huge improvement, but like you said more expensive. The sliding stopper is really where its at and if you can get a Waroo or Slingy (get one without side pulleys) bar with one then your good.

Phil,
The bar I have is a 05 profire. Will I have to modify it anyway to use it? Is there enough throw on the chicken loop to take advantage of the depower? I thought I read on another topic you saying shorter chicken loop length had some advantages but I can't remember.

You can use it no doubt, I used my 05 Slingy bar most of last year with my Waroos. I had friends that only rode the Slingy bar. The main thing that you will be missing out on is the quick push away depower ability of the longer chicken loop, and also the sliding stopper.
You could get that from either the 07 Slingy Link Bar or 07 Waroo Bar.
The advantage I might have hinted at was with the 06 Waroo it was possible to over depower the kite on the stock bar because the trim line and depower strap were much too long. So with the shorter trim line on the profire bar you would keep yourself from over depowering the kite which can result in inverting.

I really like the idea of being able to turn off the power on my kite.
If I use the ss bar as is, how much of the depower characteristics of the kite am I going to sacrafice?
If I opt to replace the chicken loop on my ss bar, does anyone know where to find this part or what its called?
Thanks for your help!

I'd just get a SS Link it comes with the 2007 profire bar and a bomber construction sick 2007 kite.
7m has 17"
9m has 17" or 20" bar
10.5m and 12m 20"
15m 23"
BTW you wont be able to use the new dbl chicken loop rope with the active stopper ball set up on an 05 bar. It best just to get a new complete rig, and did I mention it comes with the Kite, Bag and Pump. A tight Package. :

You are going to give up on some depower without using a bar with the long throw. Also like I said the sliding stopper is really good feature.

I would buy a bulroo if you are sold on best and are afraid of fuels
the bulroo has one pump. if you ever aspire to freeze balls and snow ride with it, those one pumps are a must. those nipples are rock hard in the snow making inflation a fumbly pain in the arse , who would have thought hard nipples had a downside. I've broken the damn plug off several, and nothing sucks more than stressing nipple plug management.
go slingy fuel no r and d expected from the rider or replacing /fixing inferioir aspect of design/ build. Other than their fuel ummm enough said.
good luck, 07 over 06s for sure always.

Just to fully confuse the original question, there are other options, too. As noted, Slingy kicks ass for supporting the local scene.
Best sells an upgrade kit for $99 that provides the new 07 stopper, swivel line attachment, and chicken loop.
There's an even cheaper (I spent 40 cents at West Marine and about 20 minutes) option I used to stopperify an old bar. Again, haven't flown it yet so I may be deluded and it may explode in my hands. Here's the deal (from the xtremebigair.com website):
"Making a stopper ball on the fly that you can move it up and down the chicken line is easy:
a) Use the hidden stopper ball that is on top of your Waroo bar's chicken loop. It is underneath the neoprene cover.
b) Drill a hole on the side of this ball so that it is angling a little bit as well as open up the smaller hole so the ball can slide up and down the depowerline with tubing.
c) Cut 3 feet of 3mm Dyneema line (You can buy the 3mm dyneema line at XtremeBigAir.com). Tie the dyneema line on to the top of depower loop, slide it up through the bar, over the ball into the side hole and thread it up and tie it off at the swivel.... See the attached picture. "

my guess is you can get plenty of throw from the surefire bar to appreciate your waroo. you want more throw for the waroo then you would have for a c kite, but if you push the stopper ball all the way up then the surefire bar will likely have enough throw. to some extent this depends on the kite - the 5m waroo depowers with less throw then the 14.
the other limiting factor with throw is the length of your arms. you're only going to want to strech so far when riding.
also, i like the kite to still be in the air when the bar is at it's limit for throw. when i am flying the kite one-handed (while looking for the board to wash up in the surf, or just walking back and forth from the launch to the water) i don't want my arm getting tired. i just want to lightly steer the kite, not hold down any power.
best bet is just try the '07 with the bar you have and spend the $$ on an upgrade kit if you think you're missing out. but if you're coming from c kites then more likely you'll say "holy cow this is a lot of depower" and end up sticking with your old bar.

I'm sure you will love the 07 best bar. The one thing I noticed about it, because I was flying old SS bars that were converted to 5th line, is how light it is. Also I was carrying around 4 bars last year. This year I will have two.
