I found the best watch for kiteboarding and after testing it for a month thought I’d pass this recommendation along.

Suunto M2 Watch

Key features

1) Large, very large numbers with no other worthless information displayed

2) Button lock, great for accidental button bush will not change the display

3) Water resistant to 30m, after a month I have had no issues

4) eBay, I purchased two for $40 each

I know a watch is needed if you have a tight time schedule and are trying to fit a session into it, but one of my favorite aspect of kiting is losing track of time. Very Happy

Agreed. But, that's my wife's LEAST favorite aspect of me going kiting. I think one of these watches may improve domestic harmony. Very Happy Thanks for the post WindSki! Do you have a link to the seller you purchased it from?

I kite with a watch for the reasons mentioned above, I kept getting in trouble because I would loose track of time.

Windski, how does the glass hold up on this watch? does it get scratched easily? I really like my current watch but even after just one year the screen in completely marked up.

I'm the other side of the coin SalmonSlayer, I just got a new watch for kiting because when I only had an hour I would start getting anxious after 30 minutes that I was going to be late. Now I can enjoy all of my time I need to on the water.

I ended up getting the Freestyle Mariner Tide watch on Woot for $30. I'm in Seattle and like knowing the tides due to the currents. It has info for Elliot Bay, which is sweet.

I get the advantages of wearing a watch. I am not knocking the use of one. It just would take away from my experience a bit.

For some reason I have made it home with seconds to spare without a watch every time. Walking the domestic harmony tightrope is part of the fun. Shocked Very Happy

Love that last photo !!

Have your watch on the outside next time. Smile

The Sunnto watch is only plastic material, NOT glass. Will not hold up over time, so I purchased used on eBay

I Needed the large display ! This was the key item I needed, its an age thing. Also nice was the button lock

One does not need time every outing but I'm on a schedule during the week days

I've used to go for a cheap Casio G-Shock watch when kitesurfing to keep track of time, but lately I've been thinking about getting some GPS data from my sessions on water so yesterday I've picked up a Garmin FR15 which is more of a running watch but ultimately just produces a GPS trace of any activity. I'll be testing out how it will handle kitesurfing over next few weekends - I don't expect it will capture any jumps since commercial GPS receivers are pretty poor at handling altitude changes (especially if the jump lasts max. few seconds) but I should get fairly nice read of distance and speed. I can paste some comments here after kiting if anyone is interested.

I've worn a Garmin GPS watch kitesurfing. It's fun to see distance traveled, speed etc. I'm no expert, so I rarely go much faster than 20 MPH. I often will travel 20-30 miles in a session (most if it back and forth of course). I've also tried wearing a heart rate monitor and found that if I am pushing it, doing a lot of jumps, fast turns etc my avg heart rate would be similar to where it would be at for mountain/road biking or running at a modest pace (around 150 avg). The cool thing is that kitesurfing doesn't feel nearly as strenuous.

I never wear a watch in the water for kiting or surfing. It detracts from the ocean experience and I am out there to get lost from the shit that goes down on land.

My wife will ask me when will I be coming home from kitesurfing and my patented reply is "When I am done."
