Wed Jun 18, 14 9:45 am Wind on June 21/22 weekend |
|
|
Hi, I'm quite new to kiting in Oregon, I had pretty good time kiting last few weekends in Hood River and was hoping to repeat the same this weekend as well, but all weather forecasts show very light winds (~5kts) for Hood River for both Sat/Sun. Do you think any of the other spots would be good for this weekend?
Thanks in advance for any advice. |

Regular weather forecasts are useless for Gorge winds - especially 3 or more days in advance.
Free forecast from Temira - Gorge is my Gym - donations are appreciated.

Yeah, I've learned that one day few weeks back when windguru.cz was showing 10-12kts and on site it was 25+kts (and I've left my 7m in Portland). |

try using Ikitesurf for your first year or two until you have the Gorge and Coast figured out and then Temira's will be good enough on its own. Any other forecasts will be wrong, even Ikitesurf's computer models are wrong during the off season when they don't have a human forecaster. |

Thanks, ikitesurf shows crappy winds for weekend as well - so maybe the original question is still valid - I'll check Temira's blog on Sat/Sun mornings, but if not Hood River then where? |

Check ikite again, the forecast is much better. As others have said, I would not trust the forecast for the weekend yet. |

Sounds decent to me, maybe not so much for the Rufus kite demo I was planning on. If you are a novice kiter, Jones beach is awesome when Portland is 80, clear, and the coast is NW over 15. From Ikitesurf:
Sat, Jun 21 2014
Fair and mild, but westerlies ease. Jones Beach reaching upper teens, Stevenson and the Corridor reaching low 20's. The Near East reaching some upper teens. The East struggling to reach mid teens. The North and Central Coast reaching low 20's and the South Coast reaching mid to upper 20's northerlies.
Sun, Jun 22 2014
Warmer and sunny. Jones Beach reaching upper teens, Stevenson and the Corridor reaching low 20's, the Near East maybe reaching upper teens. The East wallowing in low teens. The North Coast eases to NW upper teens, the Central Coast reaching around 20, and the South Coast reaching low 20's. |

Thanks I'll keep an eye on Jones Beach. I was looking at the graphs for Hood River on ikitesurf those were not looking very promising, but I didn't notice the descriptive forcast. I think of myself as more of an advanced kiter, just new to Oregon - I'm more used to kiting in warm sea with shallow water. |
