If I have a perfectly fixed anchor, is there a device specific to kiteboarding that can feed the lines at a slower and even rate and length to where I can get full length on the lines without a beach? If not, does anyone know of a general device that can slow the acceleration of a rope without ruining the rope too much? It seems like I've seen this type of stuff in Popular Science with boats that use kites for power.

Do you mean flying or drifting? Drifting is pretty easy and the best way I have found is to pull your sheeting line all the way through your bar effectively depower ing the kite. Then You can slowly let the kite out. In the air would require some engineering I think. You could always go back to the giant "Reel bar" that Roesler use to use.

Thanks for link!!!!

I'm thinking more flying than drifting as it seems that drifting has the potential to get messy and jerky for a few seconds.
