March 17 2014: I was pretty determined yesterday to kick off the 2014 Sauvie Island Kiteboarding Season.

Wind Conditions: 5 - 25 mph NW which means slightly offshore and clearly not ideal

Result: you can see for yourself in the video below - It worked!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73wGnltcj4M

It was the opportunity to try a brand new 13 m 2014 Cabrinha Drifter. Loved it and also enjoyed the new Overdrive 1X bar. Looking forward to receiving the 2014 Contra, which should be ideal for Sauvie in the summer and some other light wind spot that I want to explore.

Felt pretty nice to be out there again. And the best part: there was definitely no crowd to fight.

Like I said in a different post, this season is starting to look like 2004.

I'll get you a pbr when I see you out at SI for a prize, but if you really want a prize in the Interum, there is a buried mound of used diaper balls and beer bottles right at the Si launch! Smile

Again, nice work and call. I was saying to myself that it was Kira le yesterday by the movement of the bushes and trees at my house yesterday.

There was so much west in it, I would have thought you'd be on the beach watching the trees blow around. Nice St. Patty's day score!

Yep... Wind was somewhat off-shore...Had to be very committed to arrive full speed back to make it to the beach before the wind shadow of the Levy kicked in.

My drone is DJI Phantom (version 1) equipped with a semi-custom 2-axis brushless gimbal. A must have for stable footage in pretty much any conditions... You can see the result in the video as you see the propellers come in and out in the field of view during flight maneuveurs yet keeping the images steady.

Without a gimbal, the footage would be very painful to watch in windy conditions (a bit like the helmet footage when riding -- could use a lot of stabilization if it was possible)

Thanks for the reminder Sasquatch Smile
SI would not be SI without these apres-session treats indeed.

Well you kinda killed the betting for the first day Sauvies was going to blow...

Guess since we got shafted on snow, it's only just that kiting starts early!
