Thu Feb 13, 14 10:59 am Maui wind? |

Any wind forecast recommendations? Going next week and trying to decide if it is worth it to bring gear. I have looked at windguru, windfinder and windalert and it does not look promising. Do the longer term forecast generally hold up or can one not really tell?
Any advice appreciated. |

Wind can pop up at anytime in Maui and I haven't found the longer range forecasts to be that accurate. I always take gear to Maui no matter what! |

I've routinely seen the iwindsurf/ikitesurf forecasts the day before not look good and it ends up being really good. Always bring gear. Kites in a suitcase or golf bag if you bring a twin tip. The big expense is the surfboard(s) and then it depends how long you're going to be there and how badly you want to ride your board. I haven't rented in a while, but I would imagine the shops rent kiting surfboards or if you don't need straps just rent a shortboard surfboard and have at it. Have fun. |

winter is harder to predict than the other seasons. i found magicseaweed.com forecast for Hookipa to be accurate for the 10 day.

the wind forecast is not too good..... maybe late in the week you might get 12m conditions. take a big kite.
but the surf forecast looks epic!!!!
also - if you ride bikes - rent a road bike, park at twin falls and ride out towards Hana. go early - like 6:30 a.am. best road ride in the world. |

I was in Maui for a week and then Kauai for a week, just got back last weekend. I brought all my gear and didn't get to kite once! There were two windows of opportunity, but they only lasted 2 hours each and one of them the wind was blowing offshore. Hopefully my sacrifice means that you'll score. At least the surfing was good! |

if you bring it - might collect dust in the closet
(speaking from 20 days of windless feb maui)
if you dont bring it - it will blow 6m with double overhead perfection _________________ Go Deep!

Maui's been having a freakishly light wind season from what I heard. I was there 10 days in January and only got 2 days with SW'erlies off Kihei - never went to the Northshore once! So different than my last 2 trips of 90% nuking trades.
I look at http://www.hawaiiweathertoday.com/maui.php and you can navigate to Glenn's daily narrative from there.
The surf's been great so take kites and either rent a kite board or surf board/SUP and get to it! |

It's been very light on wind here on Maui all winter. Lots of Konas and such. However, there have been a few epic wind days as well. The only long term forecast you can trust is the temperature.
Take the middle ground. Pack a kite and harness. Rent a board out here if it blows. That way you're not wasting too much space and effort. If it doesn't blow you'll still have surf and SUP and everything else.
My two cents. _________________ --------------------------------
