We were also taught to use our ski poles as ice picks to help pull us out. Very informative video. Luckily I have'nt seen any ice forming in LaVentana so far!

That's a good trick - grabbing the poles above the basket - works well to self arrest or climb up and out of a bad spot

Met a lady windsurfer who skied into a 20' hole and ended up in newton creek - said it was a 45 minute ordeal till the rescue
