Thu Dec 19, 13 8:20 pm stiff suit |
|
|
So, winter's here, got out the winter suit (7/6/5mm).
It's a bit stiff, been hanging for a couple of years without use.
It's tight through the shoulders, which would wear me out faster than kiting.
Any advice on stretching it a bit?
Thanks.
BTW: oops, first posted this to the classifieds, sorry 'bout that. |

If you can clamp it at one end and stretch it with ropes tied around the other. This is how I stretch mine. |

Thanks, might try it.
So far I put it on a strong hanger with padded arms, and hung it over the bathtub.
I clamped the wrists shut and filled the sleeves with water, hope this will stretch the shoulders and arms some, that is where it really needs it.
I'll try it on again tomorrow. |

get off the roids and your shoulders will fit back in there. I am so so big I can not fit in my suit:-)!!! _________________ Take a breath; inhale |

Get it wet.
Dont stretch it! Suits are expensive, no use to wear them out faster. Neoprene always stretches more once wet. Wear it in the shower if you have to. Or just suck it up and wear it for the first session.
My 6/5/4 was the same way when I first pulled it out, and after a few sessions now its fine. |

This one is a fully depreciated diving suit, not great for kiting anyway.
Just toasty. And it was cheap to start.
But I guess I'll have mercy on it... |

diving suit is your first problem. they are no where near as flexible...
but yea an old suit an old suit... i have an old 4/3 i cant even wear anymore. it has been repaired by oneill which gave it a few more years but at this point its just too old.
Spend the money and buy a new suit. these new suits are pretty amazing. I wear only oneills and my 6/5/4 is about 4 years old now... about at its max probably only as warm as a 4/3 now... went and tried on one of the new oneill technobutter 4.3 suits and i felt like i was wearing a 2mm suit. the new neoprene is sooooo much better... |

Is so right. I have used my 5/4 hotline surf suit for 6 years. Stiff and not so warm any more. Going to upgrade after Christmas. |

True, new suit, wet or dry will be the ticket. But on Saturday the old suit got me out there. It was good and toasty but there ain't no poppin against 7mm of stiff rubber... |
