Thinking about laying an extra layer of 6 once glass on the deck of my new FireWire 5'8" alternator. I usually use west system for ding repair, but it cures discolored. Anybody know of a strong clear curing epoxy? I'm over paying 80 bucks for a urine colored finish! |

Buy some special clear hardener from west system. It mixes with regular west system epoxy to leave a perfectly clear finish. I have used it for years to add extra glass layers to weak off the rack surfboards. |

They use an epoxy resin, not sure which one.
But if west has a clear laminating hardner I'm on it. Thought about trying system three but don't know anything about it. I'll go w/ the easy choice here.

Scriffler, do you glass the deck around the rails for strength or just glass the typical heel dent areas? |

I cut a whole layer of 4 ounce and wrap it around to bottom around rails. Only about a 2 inch wrap. Just make sure you clean the board really well and key it with 100 grit everywhere the glass will be. Use just enough resin to saturate the glass so you don't have too much sanding to get it smooth. |

check out Resin Research products. They make UV resistant resins that a lot of board builders use.
