Online Translation:At Hyeres, surfboarders hit by a kite surfing
It was approximately 16 h this Friday when a windsurfer was hit by a kite surfing, at the Almanarre beach. According to the first testimonies, the windsurfer would fall to the water and was rescued by a zodiac. Once on the beach, the victim was rescued by the doctors of the EMS and the fire department from the relief center Hyerois. A man was transported in serious condition to the hospital in Ste-Musse .
Condolences to the family but where in the article did you read the WS passed away??? I'm hoping for the best from this very unfortunate accident. Last edited by Sella on Sat Oct 05, 13 10:55 am; edited 2 times in total |

Google translated from the French Windmag:
October 5, 2013 (0) Bad news: hit by a kite Almanarre, a windsurfer dies .
While the east wind blew for 3 days on the Var, the conditions were met for sessions in the beautiful bay where live almanarre windsurfers and kitesurfers . But late yesterday afternoon , Var morning relayed a very sad news for the community of water sports.
Hit by a kite , Patrick Ricaud , a retired Bandolais windsurfer well known in the area, was transported in serious condition to the hospital in Ste Musse Toulon after being supported by the SMUR and firefighters rescue center HYEROIS . Luckily , while the offending Kite would immediately took flight, Patrick , helped by a friend directly on the water , was subsequently brought ashore by Zodiac prevented by a regular spot after a third gave the Kitesurfer alert. After two hours of intensive care, emergency were not able to revive him . Our first thoughts are obviously going to Patrick's family , his wife, two children and relatives whose pain must be immense and that Wind Magazine extends its sincere condolences.
More generally , far be it from us to fuel the rivalry Kite / Wind remains sterile all ways , enjoy all the same to appeal to cautious kitesurfers who pass by here . The pleasure of a jump of more is not worth much against human life. To attend regular spots Almanarre and Madrague the collisions windsurfing / kitesurfing are unfortunately common. They are most often caused by a lack of judgment kitesurfers capacity , conditions, the magnitude of their drift jump or the space occupied by their wing . Obviously we also windsurfers to remain alert because in some situations a kitesurfer ( whose wing is 25m ) is less visible in peripheral vision a windsurfer always attached to his equipment. And a number of accidents could be avoided by a particular event as tragic as that of yesterday . Cohabitation would actually calmer for everyone .

I was kiting this region the last 4 months when living in Nice. My experience kiting in France throughout the years though is they have always been super wreckless, and have always felt the need to take an extra level of precaution around others. This summer there were more people on the water than ever. This is very unfortunate. |

Les francais are aggro c'est vrai.
Once had French windsurfer throw a forward in front of me while I was on a collision course, and on a wave ( he was riding out) And he yelled at me until out of earshot...
This is a common kind of behavior I'm afraid, so be careful. Oh and I was windsurfing too so not a kite v windsurf thing at all.....
Be careful! |
