Today I scouted under the 205 bridge on the Washington side for a potential spot to put a mountain bike park. It seems to be a perfect spot! There is plenty of real estate that stays dry and the neighboring houses are plenty far away. I think Portland/Vancouver needs something like this for the 8 to 9 month rainy season. What I'm thinking of is something similar to the Seattle Bike Colonnade. I'm posting the link. I want to get as many people stoked on the idea of cleaning, building, and riding the spot as possible! I think the more people that get involved the quicker this will transform into a great mountain bike park. As of now the area is a place where people throw garbage and drink beer. There is no sense in letting this prime real estate go to waste. Inform your mountain biking friends and lets make something happen! I have a group on Facebook called "Need for a 205 Bridge Bike Park" Thanks!

Sounds awesome maybe you should chat with the folks that just finished the gateway park and see how they did it.

I guess that's my intention is to get the right people on it. Im good for labor too, I don't have any money either. I do have potential lumber and or logs to build with. I am waiting for my registration before portlandbike.org will let me post on their forum. I want to post on as many forums as I can. With the amount of work I have seen put in at some other spots I think this spot has real potential. There is a lot of space down there that stays dry. I was down there yesterday picking up glass and riding. Plenty of room for some trails and it was dry after the two day downpour.

I am just finishing a bike park in White Salmon, WA. By all reports we sped through the process and opened it within 14 months from conception. The reason we were so lucky was that we had the full support of the mayor and his city council. The I-5 Colonnade folks also had the same and in fact even had a member on the city council as I understand it. My point is be prepared for a very long permitting process and follow their methods and you will succeed. Good luck, bike parks rule.

I posted pictures on the Facebook page that gives an idea. It's still pretty littered up down there and no features yet. Thanks also to Winddance. I think the more progress in the right direction will make it easier for the city to see the benefits? Sometimes it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. I could be wrong but with some clean up and a couple features. Burnside skate park was DIY. Anyway if anyone wants to scope it you get there off se 23rd.

So your thinking of just starting to build stuff without permission? Shocked

That would be the wrong way to approach this if you are serious.

Yeah, DIY could be a very bad idea. A: It could open you up to a pretty damaging lawsuit. B: The governing agency could just decide to shut down access completely. You're far more likely to end up with a bike park there if you go the proper route.

Good luck! A park there would be very cool!

San Diego had a bunch of mtn bikers start building features in Balboa Park (big fancy park near downtown) and then they got organized, worked with the city, and got the area sanctioned. Gotta know your local politics and take a few risks. I'm not familiar with that area. Would the Vancouver city council support this stuff or shut it down?

Two sides to every coin. Here are some pics of the area now. A place to throw garbage and drink beer. I think with a clean up and the right attitude the city will see the positive impact... Like in San Diego and Burnside Skate Park. I mean we have already had one Nichols Basin LOL. I can see it now "Friends of the 205 Bridge" HAHA! Anyhow there are plenty of Avenues to pursue the idea. Input is good. This is what it looks like now.
