I have a job site in Long Beach Washington. There are current warnings up in some spots that have kept me from kiting there.
Does anyone know about that area? While I am not doubting the warning signs, it seems interesting that its the only place I have seen those signs and there is not more info about it.
I'm well aware that a great spot to kite exists a few minutes south in Oregon. Just curious, really. |

lots of crazy rip tides and under tows all over the place. I do know there are a few people who kite longbeach. I would never surf there unless I had cancer and was going to die anyways.....
kiting is a bit better unless you have to swim in then have fun. _________________ *AIR PIRATES KITEBOARDING*

I think the signs are there to warn the typically "under-prepared" tourist that like to play in the water in their boxers.
We also have 4 generations of locals that have been told over and over (conditioned) to "not go in the water" but I'm not sure our local surf shop would be in business otherwise.
Wetsuit up, have your flotation, use typical "ocean-minded" common sense and go play...I worry more about not being the top of the food chain....LOL.

I have surfed Long Beach proper and the current was ridiculous shuttling me southbound down the beach at what felt like a brisk walking pace. I imagine at some point it would start pulling me out through a channel as the water left the beach, cuz it's got to get out somewhere. I kited there and it was fine, just like Manzanita, you don't notice the currents until you fall in. I've also tried surfing the main beach at Manzanita and thought I was going to die from the rip sucking me to Japan, but then I wouldn't think twice about kiting there. So I guess I'm saying I'd kite Long Beach, but I would save the surfing for one of the actual surfing spots. |
