Looking for a Christmas destination.

Just happened to come across nitro city in panama on a video. Has anyone been there?

Any other suggestion? Taking the whole family...parents and the kids. So need some diversions for them while I kite. Somewhere warm with waves.

Done brazil and most of the Caribbean islands. Considering Maui. Read about Egypt. Any first hand info would be appreciated.

Nitro City is a pretty small set up and is about 1.5 hours from Panama city. There is not much else to do in the area. Its Fairly isolated. Very beautiful and tranquil but no shopping, restaurants etc. I spend 3 days in the area with my 7 year old daughter and some friends and they were all happy with the beach and pool but started to get tired of the place after 3 days. There are a few cities along the coast near Punta Chame that get the same afternoon wind but have more to offer and some ok surf. a better option in my opinion. the windy season is from Dec to March.

Maui seems to be a popular destination for nwkite members. I am leaning to go there. Not too keen on security issues in Egypt and Venezuela although I met some people who swear it is safe.

After some cursory research I sense there are good places and forbidden places. Where is a spot for on the beach house with kiting allow without restrictions? I have a fairly liberal budget.

Maui is so low stress and easy to enjoy, it is hard to beat.
Short plane ride, all levels of pricing, no security hassles.
Windy @ kanaha and calm @ kihei.
Have fun.

The San Blas in January and February are so sick especially for flat water! It's funny that people who've never been are commenting.

As you may know The Best Odyessy ranked the San Blas as one of their top destinations in the world and it is. Last year we chartered a boat for two weeks and we kited our brains out. Moreover, chartering a boat in San Blas is way more affordable than two weeks in Maui. If you like touristy Maui crap, gusty winds and your Starbucks coffee than Panama is not for you. The San Blas are remote and there are no stores except the few that the indians run on the islands.

The kiting is exceptional with 12 to 14m flat water and steady, steady winds (~18 knots) all day everyday with no one else around in 85 degree water. In fact you can kite as we did miles from island to island while your Captain follows you. However, do not bring your surf board to the San Blas as the waves often close out on inches deep fire coral. The real action is in the waist deep lagoons that go for miles and miles with seagrass on a sandy bottom. Snorkeling there is awesome as well.

Dinner often is made done by spearfishing and/or buying fish out of the Indian dugouts. All in All I say the San Blas Islands in Panama in Jan or Feb are the shiznit an I can't wait to go back.

Here's a shot of a San Blas sunset session from our trip last year.

while I agree with everything you have said, the San Blas Island are a 'reservation' of sorts given to the natives so they can maintain their traditional way of life. There is only one public island with a small airstrip on it and a few buildings. So, your only option to experience the San Blas and kite is to charter a boat. Sounds like you had a great trip!!

Bocas Del Toro may be an option for some kiting and surfing but not as consistence from what I have heard. I have not been to Bocas.

I live in Florida. I frequent Bahamas. Green turtle cay is a favorite. Not much in the way of waves though. I caught the wave bug with recent trip to Cabarete. Bought a couple of boards and want to hone my skills. Will be there in November again.

Looking for a wave-centric destination for december. Better than the reef at Cabarete. Not too crazy but a steady wave source. Waves, non-wet suit destination, and diversions for older parents and younger kids.

Why not Peru? I know a few people who've gone there just to ride waves and had a fantastic time.

Maui is very hard to beat.
Lots to do if there is no wind.
US money, US laws, US health care if needed.

Looked at accommodations at Maui. Looking for a three or four bedroom place on the ocean. Any info? Looked at different real estate sites. Pretty slim offerings.
