I'm thinking about doing a few days somewhere down in the gorge, but I have a wife and a 6 year old that I can't just ditch to kite all day.

What kinds of family stuff is there to do around there?

What are the best spots to kite?

Would there be anywhere they can do something while I kite? Perhaps the Event site?

Recommendations on places to stay?

We usually go down to Seaside but the weather on the coast is terrible these days.

Just upwind if the Event Site is a great new(ish) park. Hood River Waterfront Park. There is the train they could ride on. I've heard the community swimming pool is super cool. Right at the Event Site you have SUP rentals too. Tons of stuff to do and a great place to hang with the kids.

Sounds to me like you've taken a few spins yourself:-)

There is also a real train that the entire family can ride on. I believe it goes south of HR up into the Mt. Hood hills and starts its journey in Parkdale.

Here it is:http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g51909-d273709-r135840378-Mt_Hood_Railroad-Hood_River_Oregon.html

The marina is a nice family area/swimming area and you can launch and kite upwind from there.

The new park west of the event site has cool rock climbing wall and nice beach

SUP/kayak rental at the event site.

Bike the Hood River/Mosier trail.

Get the kid ice cream at Mikes in HR, Waucoma Bookstore.

White Salmon has a kid friendly bike park

Send the wife and kid up to visit the Lavender Lady she can take pictures and smell the flowers.
