what is up with this summer and the weird wind directions, dying afternoon wind, all the holes? Have I done something karmically? Have you? I am going to be nicer to people, and will sacrifice the chicken if i have to. Hope all of you are having better sessions than me, if not, maybe you should get a chicken

So funny OG. The wind lately has been all over the place. Holey as hell and either nuking or you look across the river and 8 kites are in the water floating. It's great practice for the Blowout if ya think about it.

I bet $5k in boards floated down the river this past weekend. I returned a surfboard to a guy yesterday who insisted I take a half-rack he bought as payment since he doesn't drink. I said you from Utah? He said, yep. Embarassed

I'll bring the beer. You bring a chicken we'll sacrifice away as even Temira is calling bs on the models but it looks like it's shaping up for the Corridor, Coast and Jones Crews this week so go get it.

Models still insist we’ll see zero wind midday. Screw the models. It’s cloudy in Portland. There’s .08 gradient. We’ll see 15-18 near Hood River all day, with a brief period of 17-21 both mid-morning and late afternoon. Stevenson will join the fun mid-morning, and Lyle/Rowena/Doug’s will join the fun late in the afternoon.

Tomorrow and Thursday sees the wind centered in the western Gorge again, with 17-21, or maybe 21-23, right off the bat tomorrow, holding all day. Thursday sees low to mid twenties early, picking up to the mid twenties later. Friday, Saturday and Sunday all look windy. Sorry road bikers. Today is your day.

On the coast, from Oceanside to Florence, expect 15-20 today, 15-20 tomorrow, and 20-25 Thursday with NW 3@7 today slowly building to 5@7 on Thursday. Jones Beach looks quite windy tomorrow and probably Thursday.

Yeah, sorry if it hasn't been great in the Gorge, but I don't think the coast and Sauvie have had a summer this good in about 8 years.

What?

It has been a fantastically stellar year in the Gorge. Reminds me of the summers back in the early to mid 1990's with the great wind. But, then we windsurfed up around the corner at the Hatch.

Maybe kiters should try heading up there instead of hanging around the crap bar and the shitty salmon bridge. I have used my 6m more in the last month than the last two years. 16-25 at Swell right now... Time to go kiting... again...

We rolled the dice on Saturday, drove away from the wind in the Gorge and were rewarded with an awesome day at Manzanita. Sunday we hit Rufus... talk about the opposite end of the spectrum... just about melted after a day at the coast! Wind is out there some where if you're willing to drive!

I got into town the first of June my biggest kite is a 10 and I have missed 9 days. I'm sure people have had better stats here any year but people in other parts of the country would kill for that much wind.

Kite with what you've got and enjoy it.

Best year I have had in here in the last ten. There is a certain time of day that is the best, if you buy me a case of IPA I will tell what time to go!

Oh yeah... a nice solid hour (two total including up and down run)... me and Ryan (killer P-Town kiter for Caution)... at the Hatch (proper) and all alone tonight... powered nine meter (Airush Razor C-Kite)...

Ah damn... another shitty day in the Gorge... Oh, and the forecast is for wind, followed by more wind for the next five days... I do love the coast, but I live here and have kited just about every day this summer... So much for paragliding and BASE, but you do what the weather tells you too...

By the way... It SUCKED down at the bridge... I know I should not be saying this on a forum, but you peeps need to come up another four/five tacks... So much better...

Super fun up there last night. Hatch has the best most consistent waves in the gorge. Great to catch up with you Jon, on and off the water.

I was fully powered at the Hatch on my 10m and 20 min later it was nearly dead back at the bar. As Jon says, its so much better up at the point.

The year has been absolutely stellar. Last Sat/Sun might have been deserving of a chicken sacrifice but we still managed to ride "through the pain" for 3 hours. Smile

For all of us wind junkies the Coast to Rufus might just be the most dependable and affordable drug dealer in the country.

like i said in the original post, i hope people are having better sessions than me. Sorry for the original negativity, i probably just had some coincidental bad luck. Im ready to burn some gas and get back on the water.

I will probably drink a bunch of beer and sacrifice a chicken, but thats just what i do.

Maybe burning gas and killing chickens is bad for karma... Question

chicken sacrificed in the form of #5 spicy teriyaki with a heap of sriracha, this of course transforms the chicken into a phoenix. Washed down with a couple of bud tall boys. Winds were steady and over 20mph. Gods, demigods, figures of mythology, jobu, joba, JC, etc...........................obviously pleased.
