My buddy and I are coming down from Seattle this weekend. The NOAA forecast is terrible. Is there any chance we could get a little something? The coast is even marginal. Just looking for a little hope from the people that study this stuff closer then I do. |

Yeah, the extra 4 1/2 hr drive might be worth it. Any good camping suggestions for down there? |

north coast doesn't look bad, just not as good as south/central forecast.
n. coast probably still 12-14m conditions.
also keep in mind the BOTG is happening in Stevenson all weekend
always a fun event to particpate and/or watch

In my opinion, wind forecasts for the Gorge are worthless more than 3 days in advance. The odds of getting wind in the Gorge in July are about 95%, and if the Gorge isn't blowing the OR Coast should be.
I wouldn't bother to look seriously at the weekend forecasts until Thursday morning. |

GFS model shows no end to the wind for the gorge all the way thru the weekend. Strong marine push for Sat thru Monday. Just do it!
LONG TERM...THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY...THE MODELS ARE
CONSISTENT SHOWING AN UPPER TROUGH APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
FROM THE NORTHWEST ON FRIDAY. THIS MIGHT INCREASE THE ONSHORE FLOW A
BIT ON FRIDAY. THE UPPER TROUGH MOVES ONSHORE DURING THE WEEKEND.
LOOK FOR MORE CLOUDS THAT PERSIST AT THE COAST AND TAKE LONGER TO
BREAK UP INLAND...COOLER TEMPS...AND POSSIBLY SOME DRIZZLE OR LIGHT
NEAR THE COAST.

According to Temira:
Tomorrow starts with 21-24 near Hood River, picking up to 22-25 from Stevenson to The Dalles in the afternoon. Saturday brings stronger wind, at 24-28+, filling in all the way to Maryhill, with kite/slalom-worthy conditions possible at Arlington. If the long-range models are correct (and you know they rarely are) Sunday will blow in the upper twenties to low thirties.
The folks at the three weekend wind-dependent events are STOKED. You, you will get ready to watch the Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest Sat/Sun (probably will need to wait til afternoon when the clouds burn off), and the Outrigger/Surfski Wildside folks blasting through the Hatchery midday Saturday (can you say “utter chaos”, children?) |
