I would hate to be an emerging land developer in today's world. Your pockets couldn't last the appeal process. Environmental impact concerns about a previously designated brownfield site sitting next to a gas station just seems comical.

O no, we need to keep that beautiful brown and underdeveloped location just as is! In fact I walked the path today and marveled at the wonder this location provides the community. With the brown beautiful park next to the event site, we must all appreciate the wonders proved by the industrial wasteland. I just don’t see how the large brown park and the boat basin if turned into something usable; this would generate more revenue and tourist visiting HR. A nice green grass overnight RV park combined with a water amusement within the boat basin would NEVER add $$ and visitors to HR. In fact given the promotion by the port and city to further develop the water front area into more industrial business, they should promote a coal barges fabrication and maintenance facility. Just think all these coal barges could stop in HR and spend their money !!

recreation/fitness center.

Indoor/outdoor pool, exercise facility, climbing wall, all that jazz.
Soccer field if there is room. maybe add gear (board, sail, kite
bike) storage lockers.

Hood River is a fitness mecca. Lets show them how it's done!

People have pushed this type of development for Lot 1, which would be such a great "fit". Hoping it stays fitness/activity based. Thumb's Up

The Port is only interested in two things with regard to Lot 1:
* Does it create jobs?
* Does it make the Port money, if not does it at least make someone money so they can create jobs?

A rec center is considered far to socialist.

The problem I see is the Port Authority. Does HR have still have a port??? I know it has a marina, thats different. Why does HR still have a Port Authority? The city needs to reconsider who should manage the waterfront.

JeffT, we could get a few people to run for Port Commission, we might win seats. Assuming you could get enough seats on the board, you could make a motion to dissolve the Port. I'm dismissively simplifying the process, but it could be done.

The problem with that approach is the shear amount of work, time, and money involved. It's far simpler to put together a plan for whatever it is that is needed, one that make sense for the entire community, and present it to the Port Commission.

Even though they didn't vote for our beloved Cable Park, they are not monsters. They're pretty reasonable people, who think a lot like you.

Port of HR "head up it's ass since 1986". Hotel... ya great idea, let's make that area a complete clusterfuck of cars and more lights. ...How bout taking the fence out, making it a PARK!... ya just a park... no money to be made just a scenic area where people can relax. launch SUP's, take the kids and hang out. The waterfront could be a draw, a part of the scenic area, but HR has decided it should be a concrete wasteland. Hope all you skateboarders nail the shit out of those buildings. LOL
