Tue Jun 18, 13 2:36 pm Cab Vector vs Switchblade (pre-2013) - review? |
|
|
Hey all,
I'm looking for any feedback/review on those that been flying Vectors since they came out, particularly in the 12m size. I've only flown Switchblades (2009-2011) and Nomads since starting out three years ago. I'd like to know how the Vector is compared to the Switchblade in the 12m size.
I'm an intermediate rider. The 12m for me is for lightwind sessions (under 15knots). I'll mostly freeride when my 12m is up. I'll also likely dab into some unhooking when I'm riding in the right spot.
Thanks in advance.

Being a former Switchblade rider (12m & 8 m) and having demoed the Vectors in all sizes I can give you my impressions. I currently own a 7 meter Vector and prefer it's slightly faster turning speed, quicker pivoting, and greater stability (great for wave/swell riding) over the Switchblades. Switchblades do have a greater wind range on both ends of the wind spectrum. This being said, I find the Vectors less powerful size for size compared to the Switchblades, and find them a little doggy/sluggish in anything over a 9 meters. That's not to say they're a bad kite, they just a bit sedate for my needs in the bigger sizes - a good choice for beginners however. If you're used to that SB power in a 12 m, you won't get it with the Vector unless you really work it. They're performance will likely satisfy an intermediate in a 9 on down however...This like all things are subjective; just one opinion from this intermediate rider Cheers! |

Thanks windtzu1.
Regarding your comment on the Vectors being "little doggy/sluggish", is this based on a 12m Vector vs 12m SB comparison? My understanding is that the Vector turns faster than the SB at the 12m size.
The Vector drawbacks that I'm learning seem to be centered around the slight loss of low-end as well as a narrower wind range. Can you verify this?
Can you comment on boosting/hang time on the Vector compared to SB? I love the SB wrt boosting/hangtime!!!
I could make do without the SB bar pressure tho I've heard the Vector has lesser bar pressure. |
