I was getting geared up to his Jones this weekend, and figured with the heat in Portland there would be strong westerlies at Jones. When I look at the IKite forcast it is calling for easterlies. What's the deal? Someone please enlighten me.

This early in the season - the reason Portland tends to have warm temps is because of east winds. So the normal Jones thermal has to battle with the east flow. You will still get a late afternoon Jones wind switch and bump - but it is usually not too strong. Today - it looks like Jones finally has WNW low teens - just barely enough to kite. The coast is the place to be in the afternoon today and it will probably be th best spot for wind in the afternoon this weekend.

For the Jones thermal to get going early - you need Portland to be warm just because it already has warm air - not because of east winds. And you of course need cool air on the coast. East winds tend to push warm air to the coast. Jones could still work this weekend - but the forecast looks better for the coast.

Today it is going on the low end. Had a quick switch at 230 and there was a 20 degree did at Pdx to ast which is on the upper end of the spread I think Astoria is supposed to heat up sat and sun which will screw with the westerlies and their strength. Maybe a late late afternoon change when the coast cools quickly around 6 or so!!

Hey Guys,

Had a session at Jones last week end, lost my board and a local close to the beach actually found it. Won't be able to make it this week end, so if anybody from Portland is headed that way and wants to do me a favor, I would really appreciate if that someone could bring my board back to PDX.

Tx up-front.

No reward for the guy who found your board? 12 pack of beer is a good start for a reward.

Says who? You are fast with our judgment.
But now we are talking about it, yes, the one that helps should call me, I was thinking about some recgnition for both courier and finder. Hope that calms your sense of kiter morale.

Says who? Kinda a default standard around here and probably most places--good karma move. But do what you want.

All I am saying is that I am said to not offer a reward without being asked or trying to find out details. As far as I am concerned that's not right. Nothing to get too excited about I guess, maybe I misinterpret Sasquatches' lines.

Certainly have no attitude on a week end with prospect of East wind at Rooster and spending time with my son.

So, I would appreciate help. Easy. Have a good week end.

I offered $50 cash to the kayaker that found my board 6 months later in the bushes in Cathlamet. He seemed happy to get it. Does cash fit the kiter code?

I have told my fishing & jetskiing co workers if they come across boards typically there is something for their efforts.

Guys,

just to bring this to an end: I agree with a reward, I think it is up the individual to see what is appropriate and what the piece of equipment is worth (to the owner). I did not intend to start an elaborate discussion, nor do I have time. So apologies if I stepped on somebodies toes, I got stepped on mine because I was told I am not offering a reward.

Either way, last comment.
Enjoy your week end.
Cheerio.

JOJO, it's not a reward it is a general thank you after the fact. If you can't be bothered to spend $15.99 for a half-rack, why would I be bothered to try and track an owner down. If I ever come across your board in the water, in the water is where it will stay.

Over the past year or so while learning I've handed out about 4 6packs for board retrievals... looking forward to making these back hopefully in the next few years Smile

handed one to the Dangler last week and honestly its a great excuse to get the entire event site chilling with a beer.

North and NNE wind forcast for the coast with rooster and Stevenson blowing 30-40mph, kiss jones out of the picture. Go coastal! !! Any kind of late night push at jones will be weak and flukie with a on shore wind direction that will have wind shadows from the island and such.

Ive seen it a ton of times. Not worth it this weekend for jones.

Next week though is showing some possibilities again for some mid week Jonez Love Smile
