Tue Apr 30, 13 3:00 pm OT: SUP - Paiwen (brand) experience? |
|
|
Shopping for a SUP for my (inexperienced) girlfriend to use on lakes (not the river, and no racing or surfing) and came across http://www.paiwenboards.com. Looks like a nice beginner/all-rounder package with decent reviews (http://www.paddling.net/standup/showReviews.html?boardID=620). It's also attractive and not some painted surfboard (matters to her), and looks like a stable enough planform for someone 6'2". I know a longer, more parallel rail line will help track the board better, but at the cost of storage and portability. She says she'll be taking our small dog(s) out with her (should be entertaining, though I'll be somewhere else, kiting).
Anyone have or know about these boards? Thanks in advance. |

you could always steal it for some light wind SUKing... (stand up kiteing).. _________________ Switch Nitro II (8m, 10m, 12m)

That board should be just fine. Pretty board - has the dimensions of many all round beginner/intermediate boards. Depending on the coordination of your small dogs - they might be slipping off a lot since the deck pad doesn't cover the whole board. Some dogs would be just fine.
I am curious where you are going to be kiting with her supposedly SUPing in a lake that is wind protected nearby? I know on the coast there are some lakes and bays that could probably work. But - I found that my wife really didn't want to SUP alone - so we ended up getting two SUPs, and I SUP with her in the mornings before the wind starts and I kite on my own in the afternoons............ |

We live in Silicon Valley now and she'll paddle local reservoirs while I kite typically at 3rd Avenue. Your wife and my girlfriend probably have opposite personalities... you should have seen her when I suggested I get a SUP too to go along with her:
Thanks for the feedback! |

Yeah - personality would make a difference. It looks like a nice board. |
