Sun Apr 28, 13 9:09 am anybody about 140lbs with mako king experience? |
|
|
im looking into buying a tt light wind board for coastal and a bit of flat water. i weigh 140lbs. my kites are 2013 parks,6,9,12m. i had a naish haze xl and i didnt like how it rode. it was hard for me to hold the rail down and it felt like i always had to be pulling up hard with my toes to hold an edge. i then purchased a slingshot celeritas 5'8" that can be used with or without straps and i plan on slowly learning how to duck tack and such on it. in the meantime i want to get out in the surf on a board thats easier to change directions on and generally makes me feel more comfortable in the waves and can be used as a lighter wind board. i understand that the makos arent the best flat water boards but i just need something that will be better than my 140 mako on those rare days my 12m park cant get me going up wind. the other criteria is smoothing out chop for my knee which has had two acl reconstructions the latter of which left my acl loose and my knee unstable.
so what do you think? is the mako 150 a big enough step up from the 140 or is the king the way to go? or is there another light wind smooth rider out there that anyone would recommend? |

Why . Those are for learning. The Celeritas is a classic for mushy stuff, good choice. Add a Hybrid TT for waves. People love the Makos. They also tend to suck. I ride a Hybrid Brokite board that is wonderful.
Made in Corpus by West Hansen and Jerry. They know how to shape a TT for waves with great pop and LW ability. Super light carbon fiber boards. Go to the website see how they are made. Impressive stuff, American made..
Older Underground TT Flx, are great to take out the chop. Anoterh good choice for bad knees. |

Hey Royce,
I would suggest you get the Mako King. You will be able to learn all the things you mentioned on it easier, plus a few other tricks, like strapless wave-riding, strapless duck tacks...and more. Of course the size of the board makes it good for light wind too.
I don't the the 150 is that much bigger than your 140 and would only be a smart buy if you were just wanting to get one board for all conditions.
If you want more input just call me at the shop

I think your celeritas is a great lightwind board, especially at 140#. Slow down and get to know the boards you have first. You can take the straps off the celeritas and do your duck tack dance to your hearts delight! |

Thanks guys for all the input. The brokite boards look pretty sweet but since I already have a Naish sol, (which i think is close to a hybrid), that will have to be a future buy. I ordered the king from Windance today and I'm stoked to try it out tomorrow since i usually receive my orders the next day. the king comes with a full deck pad and surf style straps. I also ordered the surf style fin setup for it so I can try all the options;) |

I had the chance to teach and ride on a Mako 165. I'm gonna get one for sure. These boards are terrific for teaching people how to get up and turn. The soft edges are forgiving and the board feels like a surfboard.
I'm curios to demo one unstrapped. |
