yo heads up it might be chilly (which is pretty unheard of for early may) but its still not HOT here yet, and there is a N wind in the forecast, so that means cooler drier air.

you will still think its nice and warm probably, but its far from blazing hot, lots of 3/2s and shortys out there still.

been windy tho

Carol, Grom, Rachel and I will be here. Will be at the flats and up at the jetty. Look for our RV or the Island fun bus.

Been getting some good wave sessions this spring even with all of the late northerlies. If the North comes in like forecast this Thursday it will be the first time in the 7 years that we've been coming here to have one hit in May.

We have been here for a about 3 weeks now, worst spring ever.... Definitely need a 3/2 full wetsuit right now. My GF had the wetsuit yesterday and I rode with triple rashguards and shorts and it was fine in the shallow water but getting out in the middle of the lagoon was still pretty chilly, and yesterday was one of the warmer days....

On top of that, a northerly every week, you lose about 2 days of riding while the wind is switching around - last wed and thursday were like being in some zombie movie with poor visibility and thick, damp fog throughout the day. Water level is pretty high because of the rain and the North flats are a ft under water. For the rest of the time it has been mostly light wind with gusty holey wind. Big kites and a light wind board has been the ticke. Only 3 9m days so far.

Hope it gets better, but certainly this next week looks like crap.

Man, not sure where you are on SPI, but this has been an awesome spring !!!! I havent had my shortie on all spring??? Yea lots of good Northerns, but only needed my top... Maybe if came over to the other side of the bay you would get some good stuff...last week before the front , I was on my 7m for 2 days and 9m the 3rd day....I have used my 12m only a few times this spring and those where when I went to the Island to kite southeast winds.... Most of the time it is only good kiting on the island in north winds, unless its windy in the gulf... Just dont be so bitter when you really are not experiencing the best wind.....

We got out today in the evening for some decent 14m riding.

Any of you local dudes have the 411 on where to go until Thursday? Looks pretty meager so far. We are considering driving up to Corpus Christi. We mentioned that to one of the shop guys and he thought we were crazy to chase wind that far away Laughing. Are there better mainland spots that are closer to SPI?

if it clocks SE it will likely be windy mainland side in the pm (1/130 on) today and tomorrow. probably not the 25-35 it has been, but 18-20 likely.

check the website: www.prokitesouthpadre.com. or just call and ask

swing bridge or ship lane is the call, holly beach rd is probably not usable until it dries out.

ship lane dirt road wont be good either until dry, park at the boat ramp and hike it out.

corpus will rarely (dare I say never) have more wind than SPI. The corpus forecast is showing the same northerlies fri/sat as south padre. And it is going to be cold.

This is the coldest april in tx in a long time. Lots of northerlies where it drops to 60-70, then warms up to mid 80s

This cold weather is probably why there are no thermals.

I will sacrifice a small child on this makeshift altar that I have built on the beach. I believe it will appease the wind gods and bring us some wind.

Sure - get your point. We are just retail kiters with desk jobs that take two weeks off work, go to SPI kiteboarding, get our orange wrist bands and hang out at the North and South flats using our 2WD Avis rented vehicle. We come here for the warmth, safe environment and flat water. And as far as our expectations go, it has been.... well, not so good.

Were there a couple of kites up in the bay while the thunderstorms ware going on yesterday afternoon? - sure Smile Was I one of them - definitely not.

You missed out! It was pretty good! None of us were hit by lightning... yet. By the way, what kites are you flying?

Definitely not our usual April and hard for the out of town folks but we've been able to get about 3 days per week all winter long. Got a whole lot more in Feb and the first three weeks of March.

Carol got out yesterday at the jetty after the rain, thunder and lightning cleared out. Rode for a little over three hours while I played with the video camera.

Laura says she was getting some very powered sessions over at Holly Beach even when it's been flat and under 10 mph here on the island.

Grom and Rachel rolled in to town last night. Looking forward to some surf side down winders with them!
