The water was the same level today as was taken in the pic above. There is a little triangle at the bottom of the stairs near the ranger station. But the launch and land is total sketch with all the reeds - if you f*ck up your kite will get punctured.

I hiked through vietschlong land to try and find some dry land farther up. Found didly squat. No clean land to pump up on - there was some bits here and there - but full of kite puncturing type bushes.

No beach.
Nate and I drift launched from there today. If you do decide to drift launch from the stairs area, I recommend getting as close to the pilings as you can. The water seemed to be the most shallow there. You could probably pull off a tethered launch over there too. I would probably do a Dalton Point downwinder if you have a crew. I would go but I used my hall pass today and have school tomorrow. Stevie or Blackberry might be the easiest call?

SO BASICALLY THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 100+ KITERS FROM HOOD TO PORTLAND AND BEYOND WAITING TO LAUNCH AND LAND FROM THE POSTAGE STAMP AT STEVENSON THIS WEEKEND? WILL WE NEED TO IMPLEMENT A LOTTERY SYSTEM?

Anyone want to set up a downwinder, Dalton to Rooster, at 11:00 tomorrow morning?
I have a Outback and a park pass.

We are thinking the same thing. Is there even room to dump your kite when you get to the Rooster?

Just dump it in the water downwind of the piers. Not too much of a hassle.

Got it. Didn't realize you could stand there.

It is shallow. There are a few rocks mainly close to shore (may be exposed) and out toward the end of the piers. The space in between is generally muck or grass, but tread carefully all the same.
