PostSat Apr 13, 13 5:33 am    Here's a hot topic: Cold Water Safety!! Reply with quote

Just wanted to remind all y'all that it's cold. Before I go out in the cold water I do a couple of things:
1. Check my safety systems: Chicken Loop(load and unload on a beaner).
2. Check my leashe: load and unload hooked to me and a caribeaner.
3. Check my harness release: load and unloaded, my fatness engaged.
4. Check my lines.
5. Check my dog
6. Check, check, check

I also check my wetsuit for any holes that might leak if I go into the frigid water.

Check your stuff, wear your booties, wear your helmet and pfd.

happy kiting,
Ron

On really cold days I check to be sure I have filled my two gallon jugs with piping hot water and stuffed them into a cooler. After the session it is a total luxury to rinse the head and body in hot water along with helping to thaw out the hands and fingers.

Question Question Question

If it's really cold and you have to pee, do you pee in your wetsuit?

Every session is a cold water session in Alaska... A normal wind is 30mph and yup, pee in the suit.

Havent peed in my suit in 5 years at least .................yuk

and its like a shark magnet..

Twisted Evil

The warm water sounds like a great idea ..without needing to rinse the suit even.

I had a friend who poured warm water in before swiming in some cold minnesota water in shoulder seasons.

Maybe I have a small bladder, but when I'm freezing my ass off in the river during April I make sure to drink a ton of water right before I go out.

If sharks like pee then I'm probably going to get attacked soon, right?

I'll be kiting the gorge today, so you guys in Portlandia are gonna see some yellow water for sure.

lol

I don't pee in my wetsuit. Don't want to ruin an expensive suit.

Two Things Not Mentioned:

1 Kiting With A Buddy System, Which I Am Sometimes Guilty Of Not Doing In Spring.
2 Peeing In Your Drysuit:)

I think peeing in your suit is only a shark attractant if you've been eating sushi or tuna fish sandwiches prior to suiting up.

registered once sessioned with a dead bloody seal in the water, we were jumping over it, i wouldnt worry about peeing in your suit unless you never fall+flush.

where do the fish and seals pee? the ocean is funky, peeing in the wetsuit has no negative effect, but rinsing a suit after ocean dunking is a good idea.

Oldie but a classic--look at the C kites in the background. This guy has the same mindset as you. No peeing in wetsuit. This was taken at Secret spot, blue99, there is a potential "cold water advice" client for ya.

We have "relief zippers" added to our dry suits for diving. No reason a lighter weight one couldn't be added to a wet suit.
Besides who doesn't need another reason for people to stare at their junk trunk!

That guy looks like the type to piss in his wetsuit everyday and enjoy the stale urine stench.
