Very Happy Very Happy Nice find. Very Happy Where does this crap keep coming from? And is there anyone really dumb enough to buy it at any price? It always amazes me that stuff like this often sells for as much as modern gear on ebay, hell it amazes me it sells at all. Why don't people just pay someone to beat the hell out of them? That would save a lot of frustration and wasted time at least...

That is actually a sweet 2003 Wipika bar. I learned to ride on that bar. It has a locking mechanism, which twists to unlock, (ala windwing ccbar). Works great.
The purple kite looks like a 2001. The black looks like a 2002. I never cared for Fuels until 2005, as the old ones turned too slow for my taste (2001 being horrible). The 2001 build quality is pretty poor. I wouldn't buy a kite older than 2004 (rode my 2004 Caution Spitfire yesterday with a pulleybar), and wouldn't recommend older than 2008 if you are a newbie.

You should have seen the 2004 Cabrinah Nitro that was on Craigslist a while back for $1200. Shocked

Solely out of curiosity I picked up a 2002 Wipika 8.9 Free Ride this week. It is in almost new condition. It is a 2 line kite, but convertible to 4 lines for about 10% depower. I am flying it once and then it will serve some other lowly function such as apaint tarp.

There is a lot of junk on CL that has been sitting in someones closet for years. The sellers probably have no idea that the gear is worth about $5.

thx for the correction.

I pumped it up today. It is still in great condition, but, the build quality of kites has come a long way since 2002.

You kiting New Millenials have no clue. The early gear was designed to test your metal, Cull the herd, and separate the men from the girly-boys. Then they went and made it less deadly. Basterds!

BTW Wippy had their own weird sizing, that kites closer to an 11m.

roll up the tips to make it 4 lines and it will make a sweet kite.
The construction wasn't nearly as bomber as todays kites but the kites weighed a lot less back then so they would stay up in lighter wind. More efficient.
And dangler is right about the sizing, they called it the projected size
It should have the flat sizing on there too

I used to ride those goddamn kites.

Had a whole quiver PLUS an RRD Type-4 10m as an in between kite.. Used to be so stoked.

You'd be stupid to buy them now though.

Seriously.
