Spray lakes .
Some Alberta ice kiting .
There was supposedly some snow cover but after a 3.5hr drive this is what I had , Ice ! Good thing I brought my elbow pads .
I have a switchblade on my board so I can get an edge and made it upwind quite far . My plan was to get a fast reading on the way back down wind .
The shoreline had some snow build up and some banks to play on so I had to , but also lulls and turbulence due to the tall trees . I found out the hard way , no harm no foul . kites still in one piece .
I hit a few rocks and that took the edge off my blade and I could hardly stay upright on the board , thus the straight line on my track back to the start . I used the kite self rescue style to slide home ! Cleaned up the edge and got a few more tacks before the sun went down .
It's quite a different feeling seeing the bottom through the clear ice . It gets darker and black as your over deeper water . You can see the thickness in the ice at the cracks because you can see the end of the crack under the ice . Having approximately 7" of ice made it feel pretty thin seeing it that way .
I'm looking forward to when there is some snow on that Lake , such a beautiful location in the mountains .
